‘I was just thinking... get out of the house.’

Three men have made a narrow escape from a house fire in Brisbane’s south, with surrounding residents warned to keep their windows and doors closed.

Queensland Fire and Rescue crews were called to a home on Mollison St, South Brisbane about 12.45am Wednesday and arrived to find an intense inferno tearing through the home.

The three men in their 20s woke to smoke inside the home and made a frantic dash to safety.

Julian Timbs was the first to wake up when he noticed smoke in his room.

“I looked out the window and I saw a fire under the house,” he said.

He rushed to wake up his two housemates and made it to safety.

“I’m a bit shocked to be honest, it all happened really quick,” he said.

“I was just thinking... get out of the house.”

Housemate Xavier Acuna said the blaze appeared to have started from under the home, which he said was used as an office by their landlord.

It took 10 trucks and 35 firefighters to get it under control, QFR said.

A smoke warning has been issued for residents in surrounding areas.

“Residents should close windows and doors and keep respiratory medication close by if required,” QFR said.

“Motorists should avoid the area and drive to the conditions.”

Fire investigators will arrive at the home to determine the cause.
