Victorian state MP Georgie Purcell has hard launched her romance with federal Labor MP Josh Burns at Canberra’s annual Midwinter Ball on Wednesday night.

Purcell donned a strapless black gown, with a thigh-high split up the side for the event, wearing her cropped blonde hair in a fashion-forward slicked-down style.

Burns, who is the member for the federal division of Mcnamara, wore a black suit, adding a purple bow-tie for a pop of colour at the high-powered event.

The big items at the auction for the Midwinter Ball included dinner with the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, with the winning bid coming in at more than $25,000.

Dinner with the Opposition Leader, Peter Dutton, sold for $12,000.

All up, the event raised more than $360,000 for charity.

On Thursday, 7NEWS reporter, Sarina Andaloro appeared on Sunrise, speaking about the relationship.

“Federal MP Josh Burns and Victorian state MP Georgie Purcell hard launching their relationship (at the ball),” Andaloro said.

“Some of their political views are pretty different, but anyone who has been in a long-term relationship knows that that’s not necessarily a bad thing.”

Burns is Jewish and represents Caulfield, which has a large Jewish population. Meanwhile, Purcell is a pro-Palestine activist.

The pair have known each other for years.

Purcell recently said she won’t be changing her position on Palestine, during an interview with the Herald Sun.

“I have been a consistent voice for Palestine, and the right of Palestinians to be free — not only free from violence but free to self-determine, to live rightfully and safely on their land. I have no intentions of backing away from that,” she said.

Burns, who has been the victim of antisemitic attacks, said the pair agreed on most issues.

“We agree on so much, and we talk about the rest. I respect her and she respects me. We agree on what is important – we want peace and an end to the violence,” Burns said.

“We believe in a shared humanity that means it’s important to have empathy for the Palestinians facing daily violence in Gaza, and the families of the victims of the October 7 attacks in Israel.”
