On a mission to create positive change through the joy of travel.

About us

Intrepid Travel offers sustainable experience-rich travel via more than 900 trips on all seven continents. As a certified B Corp, we're a business that balances purpose and profit. We are the largest global adventure tour operator with a network of 27 destination management companies (DMCs) and a not-for-profit foundation. Majority owned by its co-founders and staff, Intrepid has been taking small groups to travel the local way, on real-life experiences for more than three decades. Through our global DMC network, our expert teams operate the majority of our trips, as well as tours on behalf of other leading travel brands. Our not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, has raised over AUD $15.5m for 160 charities around the world since 2002. We've been carbon neutral since 2010, and in 2020 we became the only tour operator with verified science based targets – these are ambitious 2035 emissions reduction targets, in line with a 1.5°C future. Today, we’re excited to unveil our Not Hot List for 2025, which is all about showcasing alternative destinations and how low-impact, small-group adventure travel can positively benefit host communities.  We’ve been releasing this list annually since 2018, but this time, we’ve taken it to the next level by focusing on specific communities rather than entire regions to highlight even more unique places and encourage a greater spread of positive impacts through destinations and communities.  It also introduces four brand new trips, all of which aim to offer customers experiences that veer away from conventional tourist routes in emerging destinations. Wherever we choose to explore the world, we believe everyone has the opportunity to be a conscious, curious and connected traveller.  Check out the full Not Hot List developed in association with Globetrender here: https://lnkd.in/gRjVgPFX

Last weekend, all around the world our community joined the Blue Dragon Marathon Walk to help break the cycle of poverty and end human trafficking in Vietnam. Together, 800+ walkers across 31 countries raised more than $360,000 for our partner Blue Dragon Children's Foundation. At the same time, powerful Typhoon Yagi hit Hanoi and many remote provinces in the mountainous regions of northern Vietnam, causing flooding and significant damage in local communities. Funds raised through the Blue Dragon Marathon Walk will now support critical relief efforts and enable Blue Dragon to provide rescue and crisis care to the most vulnerable. Thank you to those who have already given so generously. If you can, please show your support for Blue Dragon and the recovery in Vietnam by visiting: https://lnkd.in/gNFE34wb

We’re celebrating our team in Nepal, who took home the Grand Title Award at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) 2024 Gold Awards in the Sustainability and Social Responsibility category! 🏆 The award recognised the team’s efforts to break down barriers and create more opportunities for development and pathways to leadership for women in the travel industry in Nepal. Our team in Nepal has a long history championing women’s empowerment and was one of our first destinations to offer a Women’s Expedition, where travellers meet a range of local female trailblazers, including chefs at a social enterprise and their all-female mountain guides and porters crew. Well done team on paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future 🙏

Chief Executive Officer at Intrepid Travel

Honoured to be included on Skift's inaugural Power Rankings among the 30 most influential executives in travel. Being the CEO of Intrepid Travel is something I’m immensely proud of. While this list recognises individuals, the truth is this is more a reflection of the work that our 3000 people around the world do every day to create positive change through the joy of travel. Intrepid’s commitment to responsible travel is proof that purpose and profit can work in tandem. I’m more motivated than ever to continue to help to lead our industry to a more responsible future.

After a stellar and impactful (nearly) 30-year career with us, we're bidding farewell to our DMC High Performance Manager Carl Needham, who is heading into retirement, with plenty of travel and adventure still to come. Based in Asia for most of his career, Carl first joined Intrepid as a trip leader before moving into operations, where he has since been instrumental in accelerating the growth of our country offices in the region. Carl is a member of the Intrepid Hall of Fame, which recognises team members who have made an outstretched contribution to our business, in honour of his achievements and for embodying Intrepid's values. In recent years, Carl has been a mentor for many team members across the world, in particular our country General Managers, as he’s generously shared his in-depth knowledge of responsible travel with the next generation. Join us in thanking Carl and wishing him the best for his next adventure! 👏

As we gear up towards our annual Blue Dragon Marathon Walk fundraiser taking place this Sunday, co-CEO of our partner the Blue Dragon Children's Foundation, Do Duy Vi, spoke with TTG Media about how the travel industry can help make a difference for communities in Vietnam. Agents and industry partners can join the walk for change in cities including London, Melbourne, Hanoi and Bangkok on 8 September, or gather friends and family for their own walk. Thanks TTG for selecting the Intrepid Foundation as your official charity partner in 2024 and helping create positive change through the joy of travel.

We love to see our people taking advantage of their employee perks. For Reservations Team Lead Nepal, Urmila Tamang, this year that meant taking her first free-of-charge Intrepid trip on our Premium Bhutan itinerary, and her second trip outside of her home country! Our office in Nepal has set a goal to have 80% of the local team utilise their free-of-charge trip benefit annually, to help them experience our brand in the world, connect with our product and customers and take time away from their desks to recharge. Well done Urmila and team Nepal for embracing new opportunities 👏 Read some of Urmila's trip highlights below and visit careers.intrepidtravel.com to learn more about life at Intrepid.

Earlier this year we launched our first itinerary in Saudi Arabia, a Women’s Expedition, aimed at showcasing a different perspective on the country. Our customers have had an incredibly positive response to this trip, selling out our first departure slated for November. In preparation for the season, we’ve been delivering training for twelve new and aspiring leaders. The group were joined by our local Saudi partner and tourism entrepreneur Sara Omar in Riyadh, where they learnt about Intrepid’s approach to responsible travel, health and safety, and heard Sara’s experience and perspectives from leading trips in the country. In a destination where tourism is still in its early stages of development, we’re proud to be helping leaders forge new careers, supporting local businesses - a majority of which are women owned and run - to benefit from the growth of tourism, and offering travellers greater opportunity for connection with the community.
