A Milwaukee woman was fatally shot on her front porch while she was on the phone with her daughter.

According to WISN, the shooting death of 47-year-old LaShanda Shumpert unfolded at roughly 3:30 a.m. at the front door of her home.

"My granddaughter called me at 3:00 this morning, screaming and all. And I could understand what she was saying. And she did. Somebody shot my mom. So I didn't come to my car, came down here," Maeleen Dilworth-Jordan, Shumpert's mother, said.

Family members said Shumpert, who was a mother of six and grandmother to 18 children, was on the phone with one of her daughters when she was shot dead.

"But to my knowledge, she was on the porch. Somebody knocked at the door. I think she opened the door and got shot. And we have no idea. You know, she's a mom. She's a grandmother. She doesn't go nowhere, she doesn't bother anybody. So we don't know," Dilworth-Jordan said.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting, but they weren't able to revive Shumpert.

Shumpert's father recalled how his daughter loved being a grandmother. Some of the children were at Shumpert's home at the time of the shooting.

"Oh, she was fun. She could say she could sing. She was a fun daughter. She was my oldest baby. She was really fun," Waymon Shumpert, the victim's father, said.

Milwaukee police are still investigating the incident.
