This is one of three fairly large bulls that were in the elk herd we photographed the other day. They each seemed to have a group of cows that they claimed and at least for that moment a chain of command was established. They all patrolled the perimeter of the herd, bugled and postured a bit but other wise they seemed content to graze unless there was a challenge or intrusive action from a bull outside the herd. (This is one of three images in a series, posted separately not embedded.)
