The largest, most powerful raptor living in the rainforests of Central and South America. Status: near threatened.

The largest eagle with a wingspan of 5 to 7 ft. The rear talons can measure 5 inches in long — bigger than the claws of a grizzly bear. In fact, no other eagle has talons so large. Status: Near threatened. Magnificent!

Massive bird of prey, restricted to mature forest and always rare. Enormous talons. Adult is dark gray above, paler below, with obvious dark breast band. Note more obvious black-and-white barring on wings in flight to help separate it from Crested Eagle. Juvenile has whiter head than adult and no breast band; very similar to Crested Eagle but note longer crest with two points (separated in the middle). Feeds on monkeys and sloths. Photography by © (Anne Hay). Harpy Eagles are one of the world’s largest and strongest eagles. According to the #Peregrine fund, their hallux (a raptor’s back talon) averages 3 to 4 inches in size. This is the same size as a grizzly bear’s claw. In the world of raptors, females are larger than males. Female Harpy Eagles, can weight up to two times more than their mate. ZdoRodZ
