Indian handloom weaving

This photograph was shot in Maheshwar, a city in the central state of Madhya Pradesh. The 2009 picture shows a woman laying warp threads on a handloom. Warp threads [also known as warp] are woven vertically across a loom to form the core of the fabric. The weft threads run horizontally through the warp and form patterns on the fabric.

While some handloom yarns are made by a mill. Khadi is completely made in the village – from the raw yarn to the finished cloth.
