If you are new to inner healing prayer, you might start by setting aside some time, in quiet, to ask God the following three questions. I find it’s especially powerful to ask one question at a time, allowing at least 10-15 minutes after asking each question to listen for God’s voice.

1. “What is the lie I have internalized about myself, other people, or you, God?”

Sometimes I sit in stillness for awhile before the Holy Spirit shines a light on the lie that has rooted in my heart. And in that time of waiting, a lot can come up.

I might feel doubt, uncertain if God is going to show up and answer me. Or I might feel insignificant, the sense that I need to beg or plead to grab God’s attention.

When I write about boundaries, it’s not uncommon for someone to comment something along these lines:

Trauma occurs when the nervous system experiences an event — or events — in one of two ways:

Too much, too soon, too quickly

Or,

Too little, too late, too slowly

For example, one child may get stitches but have a nervous system that feels totally resourced to deal with the stress of the event, while another child’s system may feel like the stress of the ordeal is too much, too soon, too quickly.

Experiences of neglect, scarcity, or isolation can feel like too little, too late, too slowly, locking trauma into the system.

The key is: how does your survival brain (involuntarily) perceive the event? Does it feel resourced to deal with it? If it feels under-resourced, Nervous System Drawing, Sarah Jackson, The Nervous System, Deal With It, Too Soon, Black Hole, Nervous System, Too Late, Too Much

Sarah Jackson on Instagram: "Share this with someone who is in their healing season.✨ This technique, called the Physiological Sigh, replicates a breathing pattern we do in sleep, or when sobbing, when the body needs to reduce carbon dioxide levels in the bloodstream. To make the physiological sigh most effective, you’ll inhale through the mouth until your lungs feel full, then take a second inhale through the mouth before exhaling through the mouth. If you can’t breathe through your nose, you can take a double inhalation through your mouth. 1, 2, or 3 of these in a row can quickly reduce your stress levels. Here’s why it works: Your lungs are coated with little sacs, called alveoli, that expand to take in oxygen. In stress, as carbon dioxide levels become elevated, these sacs d Physiological Sigh, Healing Season, Sarah Jackson, Tai Chi Exercise, Vagus Nerve, Carbon Dioxide, Energy Work, Diy Health, Tai Chi
