Review: 10328 Bouquet of Roses

Posted by ,

As you might expect, roses have been an integral part of the botanical collection since its inception in 2021. The first bouquet, 10280, included a trio of them in light nougat, and the supplementary set released the same year, 40460 Roses, contained two red ones.

The latest addition to the collection, 10328 Bouquet of Roses, contains a dozen stems, making it the perfect gift for your loved one on Valentine's Day.

Summary

10328 Bouquet of Roses, 822 pieces.
£54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99 | 6.7p/7.3c/7.3c per piece.

Nothing says "I love you" more than 12 LEGO roses

  • Three different designs
  • Robust flower heads
  • None

Building 12 identical flowers would be very tedious, so thankfully there are three different designs representing the heads in different stages of growth. Additionally, there are four sprigs of Gypsophilia, or 'baby's breath', to add contrasting colour to the display. Instructions are split across three manuals, thus facilitating concurrent building.

The largest head, which also has the longest stem, incorporates the best 'nice parts usage' of the three: Tony Stark's helmet from 76206 Iron Man Figure has been repurposed for the outer petals, and Indiana Jones' whip is used in the centre to suggest the tips of the inner ones. Both pieces are new here in red.

The mid-sized buds also repurpose a piece that first found use on action figures, as shoulder pads. It's the only one of the three with leaves on the stem.

The smallest bud is taller and more slender than the others, yet to erupt into full flower. This is the only one with sepals at the base of the flower.

This one has the shortest stem, although you can of course change the lengths of any of them to suit your vase and arrangement. The set contains 108 of the 3-long dark green axle joiners in total.

The white and sand green of the baby's breath stalks are simple but realistic, and add colour and variety to the bouquet. Both the 6-long bar and the blade handle used in the stems are new in sand green.

Verdict

The roses in the first botanical sets were pretty impressive at the time but, although they were slightly different designs, one thing they had in common was that they were somewhat fragile: it seemed that the outer petals had a tendency to fall off just by looking at them.

Thankfully, that is not a problem with any of the designs here, they are all very robust and withstand normal handling and arrangement.

It was an inspired idea to include three different designs, not only to make building more interesting, but also to add interest to the bouquet. All three are unmistakably roses and together they look wonderful. The shiny plastic is really the only thing that gives them away when viewed from a distance.

This is another superb addition to the botanical collection which will make a great Valentine's Day gift that is sure to be well received. Nothing says 'I love you' more than a dozen red roses and, like your love for the recipient, these blooms will live forever.

Furthermore, the set is actually cheaper than having a dozen roses sent to someone by Interflora at the moment, so good value for money, too. Plus, you won't need to buy roses ever again...

Vase designed by 3D design shop, printed in transparent PLA on a Bambu A1 mini. The opening could do with being a bit wider for this many stems.

If I bought my wife a LEGO set for Valentine's Day, I'd probably end up with one more LEGO set and one fewer wife.

Very beautiful design. I plan on grabbing a pair of sets ASAP. Already 40460 to my wife a few years ago, so this is just in time for V-Day! :-)

Recently purchased this set, look forward to building them.
I display my botanical collection sets with my Expert/Icons vehicle collection. For some reason, the two contrasting collections look great together.

I ordered this last night - my partner kills flowers by being in the same room as they are and we have one of the other botanical sets on display in our lounge - this should go down very well (I hope)

I'm gonna get this for either my sister or my bestie because they both love roses

Yep, I only see this going well in my house if natural roses come with them. That said, the other botanical we have (10314) is growing on her...

Prescient Huw said it best: "[Y]ou won't need to buy roses ever again..." (hah, hah, hahhhhhhh! (dark, foreboding laughter inserted)).

Mine loved the Tiny Plants as 'part' of her Xmas gift. But, she's already nixed these without even seeing them. She thinks it's just a rehash of 40460.

@Huw - Assuming one owns or has access to a capable 3D printer, may I ask what is the cost to produce this vase?

Gravatar
By in United States,

i think these are amazing, but I am a bigger fan of dark red...I wish these were also available in a palette swap.

My first reaction was " Oh this looks nice, could be a fun gift..." but this does NOT look like a £55 set regardless of the piece count. Was expecting it to be 20-25. Perhaps it looks bigger in person, but there's nothing in the images to give any scale (other than the parts themselves obviously).

I'm just waiting for Lego to make an ironing board or vacuum cleaner.

Filament costs at most $20 a kilo and the vase weighs about 100g so about $2.

@Huw, 10280 had a trio of roses in light nougat.

10328 is attractive, and I expect it will be $48-$50 from Amazon and Target later in the year.

This reminds me that a few years after The Last Jedi released, a toy website had a bunch of overstock Kelly Marie Tran action figures they wanted to unload. They had a February sale where you could buy a dozen Roses for a super low price. True story.

Great set! The smaller red rose set was a hit on Valentine’s Day a couple years back. My wife and I were in Hawaii, so transportable roses were a surprise. I definitely scored bonus points!

If you thought buying one LEGO set for your wife for Valentine's Day excused you from ever having to buy roses again, you'd definitely end up with one more LEGO set and one fewer wife. Or you might end up losing the entire LEGO collection in the divorce...

The "No Smell" is a plus in my book as the scent of roses aggravates my allergies immensely!

So there is one day a year when there is one LEGO set of a real object where the LEGO set is cheaper than the real thing.

The Card: “Thinking of me this Valentines Day.”

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As nice as this set clearly is, I think I'd be in the same boat as @illennium if I got it for the missus for Valentines day! She tolerated the first two bouquets, but I think her patience has run out...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

(Thankfully?) I'm single so buying LEGO isn't an issue for me. Was trying to place that particular petal shape, thought it was a face plate or shoulder guard of some description, but not something as specific as Iron Man. Clever use of the Indiana Jones whip. Bought the set for my collection and think its the best Botanical set yet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd love to see Lego do a vase set that would be compatible with at least the majority of the bouquet sets.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

My 10328 Bouquet of Roses was delivered the other day and I've just opened it. When finished I will place the flowers in a suitable vase and place it on my dresser, sprayed regularly with attar of roses. Beautiful scented roses that will never wilt, drop their petals or wither away...

Absolutely beautiful set. Came close to getting it on Jan 1st but decided to wait until the price drops on Amazon. Not much chance of that before Feb 14th though!

I try to keep the dust and grease off them so that they look nice. But, part of what we don't fully understand is that flowers smell nice, look fresh, and then die. That's what they love.

Without getting to heavy into the symbolism, they don't want/like flowers that last forever. They enjoy the process of beauty, decay, death, and renewal.

They get bored and tired of the same old thing... especially if it has to be dusted.

Keep it fresh, boys!

What, fake roses? Real fake roses can probably be had pretty cheap, if you don’t mind dollar store quality.

@StyleCounselor:
Yarrow doesn’t smell good. Neither, at least to my mind, do marigolds (I think my mom only planted those to drive hungry animals away from her vegetable garden). And there’s an entire family of “carrion flowers”. Flowers don’t have to look or smell nice. They have to attract pollinators (and sometimes food). Looking and smelling nice may or may not come as a side benefit, but even then we aren’t really seeing the same flower that many pollinators see, if their eyes work in the UV band. I’ve seen comparisons of what flowers look like to human vision vs through a UV filter, and the differences can be utterly bizarre.

I concur! You know, just some general agreement. The first show I did with my club was a local comic book convention, and I ended up poking around their website. In the section for volunteer staff, they actually had to specify that individuals were expected to have showered before working the event. Thankfully, this is not an issue that my club has ever had to deal with. For that matter, I haven’t really noticed it to be an issue for the one AFOL convention I try to attend.

Heh, it's no wonder this set is already on backorder.

The whip piece is ingenious, but I think I like the mid-sized bud variant the most. And yeah, picked up as a good future gift. :)

I was slicing the vase in my software for the Bambu Lab A1 mini and it shows ~90 Euro Cent in filament cost printing it (12m of filament PLA and almost 2h printing time. Electricity is not calculated).

My wife LOVES the idea of these. I buy her two of each of the bouquets when they come out so she can display them. Come to think of it we have two of each of the sets in the line….
