Two Buffalo men were arrested on drug charges following a long-term investigation by Erie County Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigators, Sherriff John C. Garcia announced Friday.Â

Maurice Walker, 48, and Tishawn Wilkins, 28, were detained on Sunday after authorities placed surveillance on a car Wilkins was driving on Myers Road in the Town of Amherst, the Sherriff’s Office said in a news release.Â
Eighteen grams of a white powder substance that was believed to be fentanyl was recovered after a search warrant was executed on the vehicle, which neither of the men acknowledged ownership of, according to authorities.Â
Both men were charged with criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell, and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.Â
The men are being held at Erie County Holding Center.Â
Garcia warned the public that drugs being trafficked in upstate New York are becoming increasingly dangerous, citing medetomidine, a sedative, being found in drugs collected in Syracuse and Schenectady.Â
