Homicide detectives are looking into possible connections between a suspected murder and a fatal fire early Saturday, Buffalo Police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge reported.
According to the report, authorities said the victims – a 24-year-old woman who died after she was stabbed in an apparent domestic dispute and a 24-year-old man who was found dead following a blaze shortly afterward – knew one another.
Officers responded just after 3:30 a.m. to a call about the stabbing in the 700 block of Ashland Avenue, near Bird Avenue, in the Elmwood Village neighborhood, DeGeorge said.
They found a woman who had been stabbed and slashed. She was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where she later was declared dead.
The call for the fire came just before 4 a.m. at 62 Dash St., off South Park Avenue in South Buffalo. DeGeorge said the fire began on the first floor and the man, who lived at that address, was found dead in a rear first-floor bedroom. Autopsies will be performed to determine the causes of both deaths, DeGeorge noted.
