Central Michigan star, 13-year NFL veteran and six-time Pro Bowl selection Staley will be honored as part of the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024 in a Sept. 27 ceremony at Van Andel Arena.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Central Michigan football star, 13-year NFL veteran and six-time NFL Pro Bowl selection Joe Staley will be inducted into the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame as part of its 2024 Induction Class in September, the organization announced earlier this week. Staley and four other inductees will be honored in a Sept. 27 ceremony at Grand Rapids' Van Andel Arena.

A Rockford, Mich. native, Staley played offensive tackle for CMU from 2003-06. He displayed a rare bend of size, speed, strength, and athleticism. He served as captain for the 2006 Central Michigan team that won the Mid-American Conference championship, along with the program's first bowl victory. He allowed just one sack in his final two years and earned First Team All-MAC honors during his senior year. Staley appeared in 47 games in a Chippewa uniform, including 11 as a true freshman at tight end. Staley was also an athletic standout at Rockford High School.

The San Francisco 49ers took Staley with the No. 28 pick in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, marking the highest Chippewas player that had previously been selected. Staley went on to a 13-year NFL career, during which he was named to the All-Pro team three times, voted to the Pro Bowl six times, selected to the NFL 2010 All-Decade Team, and played in two Super Bowls (XLVII and LIV). He started all 181 games that he played in the NFL.

Staley was inducted into the Central Michigan University Marcy Weston Athletic Hall of Fame in 2020. In November 2023, Staley was named to the Senior Bowl's 75th Anniversary Team and honored on Feb. 3, 2024.

Tickets for the Sept. 27 induction ceremonies will be announced in the coming weeks and will available at www.grshof.com.
