I find it remarkable that these decades-old trains are substantially better than anything post-privatisation... I mean those Cross-Country and Virgin Voyager-things are just jumped up commuter trains, or 'DMUs' in train-speak. They're loud, noisy and uncomfortable - this is actually a train, i.e. with a locomotive and carriages and that makes all the difference on a long journey. And, on the way to Inverness, so much more comfortable that the even worse hand-me-downs that Scotrail relegate to the route... Thereby my train-spotter/geekery/rant ends. |
