August 27 RSCP Core Module #4: Overview of the MUTCD Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 7:00 am to 9:00 am AKST This module is an introduction and overview of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The MUTCD defines the standards by which traffic signs, road surface markings, and signals are designed, installed, and used on all public streets, highways, bikeways, and private roads open to public traffic. This module will help participants become aware of the need for uniformity of traffic control devices. Emphasis will be given to an understanding of the MUTCD, Traffic Control Devices, and Temporary Traffic Control. Webinar Registration
September 3 RSCP Core Module #3: Introduction to Traffic Safety Culture Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 7:00 am to 9:00 am AKST This training introduces growing positive traffic safety culture to significantly improve road safety in America. Participants will leave the training with a better understanding of the elements that shape traffic safety culture, how those factors interact to affect behaviors related to traffic safety, strategies that can be implemented to improve traffic safety culture among various groups, and ideas about how they can leverage their role (and the role of others) in growing a positive traffic safety culture. September 4 Roadway Safety for People Experiencing Homelessness Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 9:00 am to 10:30 am AKST This FHWA webinar series is designed to share equitable strategies and tools that can be integrated into transportation programs and projects to close disparities in roadway fatalities on the way to our shared goal of zero deaths. In these sessions, state, regional, and local transportation professionals share innovative examples to inspire transportation professionals to implement transportation improvements equitably. In 2024, the series will focus on equitable design strategies, dive deeper into equitable data analysis, and roadway safety for people experiencing homelessness. September 10 RSCP Core Module #5: Intersection of Transportation with Public Health and Law Enforcement Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 7:00 am to 9:00 am AKST This two-hour training will discuss the need for transportation, public health and law enforcement agencies to work together on the road to zero and strategies to achieve this. September 17 RSCP Core Module #6: Reading the Roadway Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 7:00 am to 9:00 am AKST This two-hour training will teach participants how to “read the road” as well as the importance of doing so in daily activities. It will use real world examples on different roadway components to demonstrate how participants may be able to uncover potential safety issues during their routine activities. It will also discuss how the road safety audit process can be used to “read the road” in a more formal approach. The training will also discuss the consequences daily activities of workers may have on safety. Webinar Registration
September 17 2024 The Basics of Traffic Counts Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 8:00 am to 9:00 am AKST *Intended Audience:* Local Agency Managers, Engineers, Planners, Elected Officials This webinar will cover what traffic counts are and why you might want to do one, what kind of equipment can be used, and general best practices to get the best data possible. This webinar will be helpful for anyone who wants to know more about traffic counts or who wants some talking points to explain the importance of traffic counts to the general public. September 24 RSCP Core Module #7: Safety Analysis Process Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 7:00 am to 9:00 am AKST The safety analysis process, as part of the FHWA Safety Toolkit, is a systematic process for identifying the factors that can contribute to crashes and implementing effective countermeasures. It is a best practice method that is flexible and can be used to fit your needs. This two-hour training will cover the safety analysis process and discuss how it can be applied using two different complementary analysis methods: the traditional site analysis and the systemic analysis. Local Agency Professional Development Scholarships

Reimbursements for up to $3000.00 are available for local road management agency employees. The funds can reimburse meeting fees, materials, and travel expenses (cannot cover salary). Of course, there are limited funds available each year. The requirement to utilize the funds is sharing the information you gain with your peers. We can help you do that too!

The continuing education program aims to maintain a continuing level of competency and standards for professional architects, engineers, land surveyors, and landscape architects to promote public health, safety, and welfare within this state.

The State of Alaska Local Training & Assistance Program (LTAP)

provides professional development opportunities to local governments, consultants, and construction companies conducting work on behalf of the State of Alaska Department of Transportation. LTAP centers help local agencies improve their roads and bridges by supplying them with various training programs, technology updates, newsletters, and personalized technical assistance.

Working in partnership with our Municipal and Rural Planning Organizations (MPOs & RPOs) and Alaskan consultants and contractors who have active State of Alaska projects, we strive to provide up-to-date training on relevant training opportunities. The mission of the Alaska LTAP is to create a more effective and diverse workforce by giving informational opportunities to all transportation partners.

The State of Alaska LTAP Team

Cina Fisher is a lifelong Alaskan raised in North Pole, Alaska, and the Circle Hot Springs mining region. Cina believes accessible information empowers people to excel at their chosen professions. After serving in the US Army, Cina returned home to a career creating, coordinating, and delivering State and Federal training specific to Alaskans.

Cina's experience includes developing training programs for the US Census Bureau -Remote Alaska Division, the Alaska National Guard, the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, and Alaskan small businesses. During the summer, Cina enjoys the Alaskan wilderness by fishing, hunting, or berry scavenging. Her winters are full of hockey games and seeking warm beaches!

Joshua Hyde has a combined experience of 10 years working with local and international interests in geology, mining, and tourism, along with asset protection in wildland firefighting for BLM, fleet management, and employee skill development. Joshua puts his energy in the office into sharing knowledge and information so that everyone can be sure their efforts are not in vain.

Outside the office, Joshua enjoys time on the rivers and banks of the great state of Alaska, hunting, fishing, camping, kayaking, and snow machining into the White Mountains during the winter and ice fishing whenever possible. Joshua began as Training Specialist for LTAP and T2 in March of 2023.
