On 20 May 2023, a crowd crush in Estadio Cuscatlán, a football stadium in San Salvador, El Salvador, killed at least 12 people.[1] It happened during a match between local team Alianza and Santa Ana-based Fas. Dozens of other people were injured.[1] All national level football matches that were due to take place the following day were suspended.[1]
