Functional programmers use category theory as a tool to model problems and introduce new terminology as appropriate to their problem domain. The term "catamorphism" does not appear in any book on pure category theory, it is exclusively a term that is used by functional programmers. undo

  • curprev 10:2910:29, 24 January 2024Jd2089 talk contribs 13,029 bytes −118 Fixed error(s) in this example and added references for the construction of the initial algebra and the cata map of the Maybe functor. For example the definition of StepAlgebra in the code was not as it was described in the text, it needs to be "type StepAlgebra b = (b, fmaybe b->b)" in the notation of the old example. The example now correctly (as in the Definition section) describes the initial algebra and the cata map for the F-Algebra of the Maybe functor. undo
