As of 2000, the racial makeup of the Parkland neighborhood was 83.4% White, 8.2% Black, 6.6% Latino, 4% Asian, 1.9% Multiracial, 0.4% Native American, 1.9% Other.

Ann Arbor Trail Magnet Middle School is the neighborhoods only public school. Students attend elementry and secondary school in neighboring Warrendale. There are also many well-regarded charter, private and parochial schools in neighboring areas. Located one mile south of Parkland is The University of Michigan-Dearborn campus.
