*[[1875 Cúcuta earthquake]] – The Earthquake of Cúcuta also known as Earthquake of the Andes was an earthquake that occurred on 18 May 1875 at 11:15&nbsp;am. It completely demolished Cúcuta, Villa del Rosario (Colombia), San Antonio del Tachira and Capacho (Venezuela). The earthquake killed many Venezuelans in San Cristóbal, La Mulata, Rubio, Michelena, La Grita, Colón, amongst others, and was felt in both Bogotá and Caracas.

It caused extensive damage in Caracas, La Guaira, Barquisimeto, San Felipe, and Mérida. An estimated 15,000–20,000 people perished as a result, in addition to incalculable material damage.

This is a list of significant earthquakes that either had their epicentres in Venezuela or had a significant impact in the country. Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though resistant structures exist. The predominant vulnerable building types are unreinforced brick masonry and adobe block construction. [1]
