Dame Donna Langley-Shamshiri DBE (born 1968[1]) is a British movie executive who is Chairwoman of Universal Pictures.[2][3] She was profiled in Variety's "Power of Women" issue in 2014.[4] The name 'Donna Langley' was revealed in August 2015 to have been used in a scam by former UFC fighter and sports broadcaster Chael Sonnen, who stated that he was propositioned for film work over several phone calls with a woman with an English accent masquerading as Langley. Sonnen received a call from the FBI after this incident, who confirmed the status of the scam and made clear Langley was not involved in said operation.

Career

Langley began her career as a production executive at New Line Cinema. In 2001, she became senior VP of production at Universal Pictures.[5]

In her time at Universal, Langley has overseen such film franchises as Fast & the Furious as well as Despicable Me and the Bourne movies.[6] Her work also includes overseeing the global specialty division, Focus Features, as well as DreamWorks Animation, acquired by Universal in 2016.[6]

Throughout her career, she has supported mentorship opportunities for women.[7] Langley helped launch The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Film Mentorship program.[8] She also serves as an ambassador and board member for the nonprofit Vital Voices.[9]

Langley was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2020 New Year Honours for services to film and entertainment.[10]

Personal life

Langley is married with two children, and lives in Los Angeles with her family.[7][8]
