Adétòkunbọ̀ (Yoruba pronunciation: [ādétòkũ̄bɔ̀]) is both a surname and a given name of Yoruba origin meaning "the king/crown/royalty from across the seas" or "the king/crown/royalty from a foreign land". The name consists of two parts: Adé “crown”, which is also found in other Yoruba names such as Adéwálẹ̀, and Tòkunbọ from ti òkun bọ̀ “came (by) sea (and) arrived”, which is often applied to children born outside of Africa.

As a result, the surname Adétòkunbọ̀ is commonly transcribed Αντετοκούνμπο in Greek, which is pronounced [adetokunbo]. That Greek name is in turn transliterated, using Latin characters, as Antetokounmpo. This practice reflects literally the order of the Greek letters ‒ rather than reflecting the name's pronunciation in Yoruba or in Greek.
