The evidence cited in the footnote [128] as of this date leads to a 404 error on the redirection website. This either needs new evidence or to be removed as the subject is a very serious allegation [[Special:Contributions/143.231.249.133|143.231.249.133]] ([[User talk:143.231.249.133|talk]]) 17:06, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

What does this mean?

"Tolson accepted the American flag that draped Hoover's casket."

What does it mean "to accept" a flag? 2601:200:C000:1A0:B15B:237F:FBAF:F56D (talk) 15:41, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When the American flag is removed from the casket and folded into a triangle it is then handed to a close family member of the deceased person, often a spouse or parent. If there are no family members at the funeral someone close to the deceased will be given the flag. If the person doesn't refuse to take the folded flag, it has been accepted. (I have no reliable reference to cite for this, it is just personal knowledge from attending several veteran's funerals.) Karenthewriter (talk) 05:15, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

African American Ancestry

Recently some research has been done that indicates that he may have actually been of African descent, but the only mention of this is in the first sentence, with "John Edgar Hoover was an African American law enforcement administrator..." Can there be a citation or discussion for this? It's also unclear how disputed this fact is. It is also worth noting that the Early Life section directly disputes this by listing the ancestry of his parents without mentioning any African-American ancestry, citing his parents as of "Swiss-German" ancestry and of "English and German" ancestry

Hoover looks about one-fourth black to me, especially in his younger pictures. (Somewhat less so in his older pictures.) It's hard to see how a completely white person could look like him.

The ancestry section actually cites to an article entitled "The Mysterious Origins of J. Edgar Hoover" that discusses his possible black ancestry. However, the Wiki article discusses basically treats Hoover's official ancestry as being a fact.

Maybe we could put his ancestry rumors in the section with the rumors about his sexuality.

Consultant to WB Warner Brother

That is a cruel issue on Warner media and why warn anyone on World terrorist plots or the Bank that funds this either. Hoover is a chapter in HILLARY CLINTON BOOK . Guilty as Sin. So who is guilty Chapter 13 and the World bank? harassment???? 174.29.93.157 (talk) 13:27, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicity

It has been recently brought to light that he was of African ancestry and passed as white. Some of his Black relatives have come forward to discuss this fact. Birdzmo3 (talk) 23:04, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm assuming that you're referring to this article by Essence. If so, the source it cites is not recent, it's a book from 2000 [1]. Millie McGhee, the author, has no academic credentials. Additionally, Hoover's biographers don't seem to mention this claim at all. I don't think it's notable enough to be mentioned in the article. Antiok 1pie (talk) 23:32, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See also this WaPo article which labels Hoover's alleged African-American a myth. Antiok 1pie (talk) 23:38, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sexuality takes up an enourmous amount of the article

Shouldn't it just be a couple sentences and link to an article on the topic? Tikaboo (talk) 16:28, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
