Lake Surprise[1] is a reservoir in made by Surprise Lake Dam [2] in the Watchung Reservation. It is on the border of Berkeley Heights and Mountainside. It feeds the Blue Brook, which feeds into the Green Brook. Local lure tells that settlers named it Lake Surprise when they discovered it was only 6 feet deep, however this is a myth due to the fact that it has only been around for about a hundred years and was artificially made.
