The build process for Firefox for Windows is now so complicated you need two compilers and a copy of Linux so you can cross-compile it from Wine. Please show me someone who is actually building GNU IceCat for Windows this way. Thank you. Tags: Undo Reverted

Read before you touch this again, please. "During last connections to Libera.Chat its servers reported an average of 31762 users and 22560 chat rooms. Use the following menu to get more information about IRC network Libera.Chat!" Tag: Undo
  • 20:2220:22, 30 September 2023 diff hist −264 MPEG-4 SLS→‎Background: This has needed a citation for at least 11 years. Just delete it. In that time, this has been proven factually incorrect given the fact that the Opus codec was developed. There are always plenty of applications where the efficacy of lossy compression codecs matters a great deal. Many Web sites are even transitioning away from legacy image and video codecs to WebP and WebM from JPEG and MPEG to save money on their hosting bills and patent grifters.

  • 23:2923:29, 28 September 2023 diff hist −67 GNU IceCatRemove Windows, Mac, and Android. While it may still be possible to build for these platforms, I haven't seen any evidence that anyone is doing that, and I doubt many users of those systems would know where to begin. Tag: Reverted
  • 23:2623:26, 28 September 2023 diff hist −23 GNU IceCatSmall cleanup. Since Firefox has been limited by Mozilla into only supporting WebExtensions, it is no longer possible to install full blown XUL applications. So IceCat is no longer an Internet Suite for the same reason Mozilla's software isn't.
  • 23:2323:23, 28 September 2023 diff hist −3,826 GNU IceCatRemove the Version History section. They're not even making actual releases as binaries anymore, and most of these were blank anyway and wasting a TON of screen space in the article. Most of the pertinent information would be in the corresponding Firefox release.
  • 23:2123:21, 28 September 2023 diff hist −118 GNU IceCat→‎Distribution: Clean this up some more. There hasn't been a release tagged in years. All they do is make it so you can pull the source and build, although some Linux distributions provide binaries this way. Let's not direct users to rotting binaries.
  • 23:1323:13, 28 September 2023 diff hist −263 GNU IceCat→‎Distribution: Citation needed for at least a couple of years, yet nobody ever did. I checked Fink and there is no icecat package anywhere. So they've obviously dropped it if they had it at some point. Also, good luck trying to run a binary on a Mac for long if it's not being tended to constantly.
  • 23:1023:10, 28 September 2023 diff hist −117 GNU IceCat→‎Distribution: Policing some WikiRot. The Android build in F-Droid has been neglected since 2020 and is full of holes. Upstream Firefox ESR doesn't even support Windows Vista anymore and will drop Windows 7 after the 115 series. The last binary build for Windows would be impossible to browse with due to age and is now full of security holes.
  • 10:3010:30, 28 September 2023 diff hist −892 Firefox for Android→‎Forks and code reuse: GNU IceCat has not been updated in three years. It's abandoned and it's best not to advertise this as it's not full of security holes.

Mention ChatZilla can run on any platform the SeaMonkey Internet Suite can run on, instead of "Mozilla browsers". SeaMonkey is not a part of Mozilla for some time now.
