Souhardya De FRAS is an Indian author of historical fiction, an art and culture columnist and a podcaster from Midnapore, West Bengal.[1] As a columnist for the Sunday Guardian[2] he writes on topics pertaining to the various dimensions of Indian culture.[3]
Personal life
De is a high school student at Vidyasagar Shishu Niketan in Midnapore, West Bengal.[4][5] His father, Shakti Prasad De is an assistant professor of History at the Midnapore College and his mother Jayati De currently serves as a teacher at a government school, in West Bengal.[6]
Career
Souhardya was a Junior Reporter for the South China Morning Post at Hong Kong, editing its weekly ‘Best Friends Forever’ page, published under the auspices of the Young Post division of the SCMP.[7] Later, he also served on board as a coordinator for the Statesman at Kolkata, West Bengal.[8] He has also worked at the Citizen under Seema Mustafa[9] and at WION[10], both in the capacities of an opinion journalist, commenting on gender inclusiveness in the Indian context.
Work
Souhardya has been a columnist, providing perspectives and writing on topics that have, in the past included, the Amb Sharif temples at Soon Sakesar[11], Vajrayana Buddhism[12], the life and times of Mughal princess Zeb-un-Nissa[13] and Indo-Greek cultural relations[14][15], amongst others. In his podcast titled ‘Cosmographia: The Graeco Romans, the Egyptians and Us’, De discusses the similarities in philosophical ideals within the Indic, Greco-Roman and Egyptian civilisations[16][17].

- 2021 - Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar,[2][18][19] the highest national honour for Indian citizens under 18, by the President of India Shri Ramnath Kovind, for his contributions to Art and Culture, in 2021.[20][21]
- 2020 - nominated for the 2020 International Children’s Peace Prize, given away every year by the KidsRights Foundation, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.[22][23]
- 2019 - included in the India Book of Records 2019,[24][25][26]
- 2019 - elected as a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland by the then President, Professor Dr. Anthony Stockwell, FRAS.[3]
