Margaret Ng (Chinese 吳靄儀, ''Pinyin'' Wú Ǎiyí) is one of Hong Kong's leading barristers. She has garnered even greater prominence as an elected member of Hong Kong’s Legislative Council. In every election held since the creation of the HKSAR in 1997, she has been returned with massive majorities to represent the Legal Functional Constituency. Ng belongs to the Article 45 Concern Group (originally the Article 23 Concern Group), a caucus of Legislative Councillors who favor democratic reform and oppose the perceived campaign waged by the supporters of the pro-Beijing administration to abridge the civil liberties of Hong Kong residents.

Biography

Before entering legal practice, Margaret Ng worked at the University of Hong Kong and Chase Manhattan Bank (now JP Morgan Chase). She also occupied senior positions in journalism, serving for a time as a senior editor at the Ming Pao newspaper.

Besides being a deeply experienced, learned lawyer and journalist, Ng is also an accomplished expert on philosophy and literature. She has written several volumes of critical studies on the kung-fu novels of Jin Yong and earned her doctor of philosophy degree from Boston University.
