Manuel Cepeda Vargas he was a politician, lawyer and journalist Colombian been born in Armenia the 13 of April of 1930 and assassinated in Bogota the 9 of August of 1994 within the framework of the genocide to Patriotic Union (Colombia).


In 1952, while it made right studies in the University of The Cauca, it decides to enter to Colombian Communist party during the Campaign of Growth that oriented this one after the murder in Cali of the popular leader Julio Corner. In 1958, in VIII the Congress of the PCC, it is chosen its Committee Central and ordered of the reconstruction of Colombian Communist youth, JUCO, of which it occupies the general secretariat. In its work of reconstruction it militates next to Jaime Bateman Cayón, Hernando González Acosta, Yira Castro (its future wife), Loyal Brown Jaime and Miller Chacón.

In 1960 house with Yira Castro, with whom it will have two children: Iván Cepeda Castro and Maruja Cepeda Castro.

In 1964 it is jailed by its revolutionary activity, and in the Jail Model of Bogota it writes the poem book You will overcome Marquetalia, tribute to the resistance armed farmer who oriented the PCC in the Tolima and who would end at the foundation of The CRAF.

He was columnista of the weekly Proletarian Voice (soon Weekly Voice) soon to happen to direct it, already like member of the Central Executive Committee of the PCC. It continuously denounced the political genocide against the PCC, National union of Opposition and Patriotic union.

In 1981 it publishes Yira Castro: my flag is the joy, posthumous tribute to its wife who passes away that year.

In 1992 Secretary General of the PCC is named, in replacement of Alvaro Vásquez of the Real one. He was senator of the Republic by the UP, and as so it were assassinated in the streets of Bogota the 9 of August of 1994.

In their honor, a school of Bogota and a guerrilla front of the CRAF take their name, although its son Iván Cepeda Castro it has repudiado the use of the name of its father on the part of the CRAF and has condemned in several occasions the actions of that guerrilla, reiterated who “ a right and democratic society, like which it loved my father, is not constructed to end of indiscriminate attacks against the civil populace ".
