Proposed template giving map of lines in the Milton Keynes area

Class 150 and 153 gone out to pasture?

[edit]

Now that the new (well, previously loved) Class 230 trains are in use, do we know whether the Class 150 and 153 trains have been fully withdrawn or are they sat on a siding near the Northampton TMD in case a 230 fails? Should the infobox continue to show them as 'in use'? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:00, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

230s to be replaced by 150s - when? how?

[edit]

I rewrote an awkwardly phrased item about replacement of the 230s by 150s. I don't have access to Rail 977 so would someone who does check what I have written? I ask because Vivarail dream over as the liquidation process begins (16/2/23) doesn't say anything more than that the BRS is expected to continue to 2024. Nothing about 150s, let alone where they are coming from.

(I'm opening a book on whether the replacement trains will ever arrive. By end 2024, EWR is likely to be almost ready to roll so why would WMT go to the trouble? It is not as though the line is so busy as to support an 'all stations' service as well as a semi-fast.) 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 20:20, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have an online copy of 977! To summarise, they say that Class 150s will replace the Class 230s, possibly from Northern, but not expected until 2024. They then link this to Northern waiting for more Class 156s to cascade from East Mids, and say the final decision will involve DfT (as is increasingly the case).
My understanding is that replacement stock is limited by the level crossings on route - essentially whatever it is has to be short enough that it doesn't overhang onto the road when stopped at a platform (the WMR 230s were about 38m, most 2 car stock is probably too long).
I get the feeling at the moment that Marston Vale is pretty low down the DfT priority list right now though (a real shame)...
I'll keep my eye out for more concrete news to come out and go from there, adding the article to my watchlist in the meantime! TwoRaindrops (talk) 00:04, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Status of the line

[edit]

Adding a new topic partly because I reverted an edit for the first time (personal achievement of sorts?), but also in case there is any discussion to be had on the topic.

The previous version changed the status of the line to "Suspended until Autumn 2023", which whilst possibly true for passenger services (I'll believe the reinstatement when I see it), is not the case for freight and empty stock movements which still make use of the line (admittedly with far less trains per day). An example here for instance.

Pretty sure it was a good faith edit based on the passenger service, but to call the line to be fully suspended, I'd say that would mean the withdrawal of any trains at all. Always happy to be corrected though if others think differently! TwoRaindrops (talk) 22:02, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Given it's the line, not the service, that we're thinking about, then I'd say you're right. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 07:41, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maintenance of the Class 150s

[edit]

Does anyone know where the Class 150s will be maintained? Or to put it another way, does Bletchley TMD need updating? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 16:54, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@JMF looks to still be Bletchley TMD for the 150s - some current examples in case you're interested: 5S05 and 5S26 TwoRaindrops (talk) 22:45, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated the Bletchley TMD article to reflect 3 British Rail Class 150 DMUs now being maintained there. Maurice Oly (talk) 00:34, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Station articles services sections

[edit]

Is there a better alternative for the services sections on the Marston Vale Line pages or is this structure adequate and useful for the long term?

The typical off-peak service is one train per hour in each direction between Bletchley and Bedford which runs on weekdays and Saturdays only using Class 150 DMUs. There is no Sunday service.[1][2][3][4]

It is the same style as used on every station article. Looking to the near future, the test will say "between Oxford and Bedford or MK Central" and the line name in the infobox will become "East West Rail" instead of Marston Vale. What do you see as an issue? --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 17:51, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t see an issue JamesVilla44 (talk) 17:54, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
