Legit Japanese grocery small (it's small but packed with snacks, drinks, candy). They even sell fish and meat.

I was specifially looking for sushi sheets but I didn't want to pay $44 CAD/pack.

I was looking for reasonably priced hojicha and matcha but i wasn't able to find any at a good price.

It's tight in here ! And with restrictions lifted it can get congested FAST ! ! For grocery items they're primarily snack-centric , but they do carry some basic Japanese staples . What impressed us most however is their sashimi selection , so unbelievably fresh ( for a non-restaurant ) ! Also their wagyu ( A3 - A5 available ) , ohhh-sooo-heavenly ! !

This is a foodie's paradise, but the only reason for the 4 stars is price of sashimi and meats. But in terms of snacks and drinks, the prices are very reasonable for the variety that comes in and can't find anywhere else in town. My favourites being Yuzu Meltykiss, sugared Yuzu peels and specialty Calbee. The Kitkat selection is small from my experience (1-3 varieties) and T&T still remains the leader for me in that category.

You'd be wrong to think that nearby Izumiya is identical, as Darumaya sells things more suited to an individual instead of family sized. Products are also more unique and different, with the store's small footprint making it like a maze with lots to discover. It's a great place to go if you're looking for unique snacks to mail to friends elsewhere or to share locally. Chips go for around $2.99-$3.99 a bag though. I also appreciate the thoughtfulness of the small drinks fridge beside the checkout, paired with the non-refrigerated drinks on another shelf.

My foodie friend and I remark at the price of the frozen, vacuum sealed wagyu and fresh sashimi every time we go. We're not chefs, but they are both out of our price range, most likely attributed to import charges for a small establishment. However, if you can afford quality, I'm sure it'll be there. The sashimi is very fresh and prepared in house though, but having lived here so long, there are other places to get quality sashimi for less.

Cool selection of imports, and I was lucky to get in when some take out sushi was just freshly made. God damn, really good, but a bit pricey.

Small and efficient store with a wide variety of goods. Lots of made in Japan snacks like chips and candies. If you need to whip up a meal at home, they have the key ingredients you need ranging from sauces and seasoning to meat and fish.

The staff is very friendly and.polite. Pretty well what you expect in Japan.

My main discovery is their omochi. Oh so soft to the hire and of course, tasty.

Visited here for the third time. This is my planned stop in Vancouver. I like the store since they have something different from Uwajimaya. Living near Seattle, I am fortunate to have Asian grocers like central markets, H mart, Ranch market, Uwajimaya. But it's always good to find options.

Darumaya's sales items are pretty good price at half off. Examples: Gogo tea 185g 99c CAD, Meiji chocolate 1.19c, Koalas March 1.19c, etc..

I bought a variety of Japanese snacks, drinks, a bag of rice and king salmon sashimi, which the lady let us try there. She said the salmon are farm raised in New Zealand in really good environment. They sure tasted good!

The last thing I want to point out is they give us free things whenever I shop. They are short in expiration but I don't really care cause I can use them.

As you know, Richmond is predominately Chinese. However, this grocery store carries authentic Japanese groceries and only Japanese merchandize. While it's small, I was able to find many things I wanted to buy as someone who grew up in Japan. For example, they have great meat and fish (e.g., yellow tail collar) vacuum packed. They also have some snacks close to expiration dates up to 50% off. The store is very clean and extremely tidy. My favorite Japanese grocery in Richmond (maybe even in Greater Vancouver)!

Location: It's on the same shopping center as Walmart and Tsujiri (Japanese tea/sweet shop). There's a lot of free parking on site.

I want to talk about my love for this place and what it has to offer... but first: This is the ONLY store in all of Western Canada to be registered to sell real, Kobe beef. It's only this store, and another one all the way in Markham, Ontario. If you are a true foodie looking for legitimate Wagyu from A3-A5 as well as true Kobe beef certified by Kobe-Niku: This is your ONLY choice. They have the papers and bronze statue to prove it. Any others claiming they sell Wagyu or even Kobe beef are either selling an American or Australian variety.. or they're lying just for marketing purposes.
Darumaya is THE BEST shop for not only Wagyu beef, but I've had the fortune to stumble upon them selling Crown Melons every now and then whenever they're in season. If you want incredible Japanese products that you cannot normally find elsewhere; this is the place.

Customer service is incredible, and friendly

Had the pleasure of buying a few of their Wagyu steaks, and saying it's one of the best cuts of meat I've ever bought is an understatement. True and literal melt-in-your-mouth steak.

      Will return 1000%

Very expensive sashimi deli. I believe they charge for side stuffs also. Very small shop. It's convenient and interesting though.

My favourite place for fresh fish. I'm studying outside the country but every time I'm back I have to come here. Really wish a shop with this quality is near my school.

Honestly you can't go wrong with anything here. The uni, o-toro, chutoro, BFT red meat, king salmon toro, negitoro maki, chirashi, etc is all fantastic.

They also have legit wagyu here that I can't wait to try.

      Highly highly recommend this place.
