In 1969, Kenji, an elementary school kid and his friends built a secret base during their summer holidays. Years later in 1997, Kenji becomes a convenience store manager and leads a regular life after giving up his dreams to become a rock star. His boring life is suddenly turned upside down when his old classmate dies mysteriously and an entire family in the neighbourhood disappears. At the same time, a religious cult and its mysterious leader, Friend emerges and a strange chain of events duplicating exactly the events described in the Book of Prophecies follow. The Mobile Investigative Unit (known as MIU) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department attempts to solve cases within 24 hours. Detective Kazumi Shima is selected as a new member of MIU. He is intelligent, with excellent observation and communication skills. Yet, he does not trust other people. He is unable to find a partner in MIU and is ordered to partner with Police Officer Ai Ibuki, who works at a police substation. Ibuki applied for MIU, but he failed. He is in excellent physical condition, but he lacks knowledge and experience as a detective. Shima learns about Ibuki's background and he becomes more nervous. Finally, Shima has his first meeting with Ibuki.

The story of a family of five strangers living under one roof. Naotatsu is set to stay with his uncle as he enters a new high school. He now shares a house with a salaryman who quit to become a mangaka unbeknownst his parents (the uncle), a cross-dressing fortune teller, a college professor, and a 25 year old office lady all quirky in their own ways. Naotatsu, a high school freshman, begins the strange days of living under the same roof with them.
