Kevin Slaten

Kevin Slaten manages Freedom House’s office in Taiwan and leads the China Dissent Monitor, an initiative launched in 2022 to track protest and other forms of dissent in China. Prior to these roles, he worked on a Freedom House project supporting civil society organizations across Asia. Together with previous NGO and graduate school work, Kevin has been involved in research and advocacy on China’s civil society and politics for 15 years. He has published analysis on related topics in Foreign Policy, Nikkei Asia, The Diplomat, ChinaFile, among others. He has been quoted in dozens of print and broadcast media reports, including CNN, NBC, BBC, Deutsche Welle, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg. Kevin holds an MA in Advanced Chinese from The Ohio State University.
