New York City will increase police patrols at Trump Tower and other locations on Saturday after U.S. Secret Service agents rushed a bloodied Donald Trump from the stage after gunshots rang out at a rally for his presidential campaign in Pennsylvania.

Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy announced the boosted police presence Saturday evening, saying the surge of police resources comes out of an “abundance of caution” and not in connection to any specific threat. There is no known connection between the incident at the Pennsylvania rally and New York City, he posted on the social media site X.

Trump Tower, the Trump-owned 40 Wall St., Foley Square and City Hall are among the sites where extra police officers will be deployed, Levy said.

In a separate post on X, Mayor Eric Adams called the incident, which occurred just north of Pittsburgh, “horrific.”

“Sending my prayers to former President Trump, his family, and everyone who was at today’s event,” Adams said. “Political violence has no place in this country.”

In a statement, the Secret Service confirmed that Trump — who was shown in video and photos pumping his fist to the crowd as he left the stage with blood leaking from his right ear — is safe.

“This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available,” Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, said the former president is “fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.”

Federal and New York state and city officials widely condemned the shooting, which many of them decried as an act of political violence.

Among them were Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who are both Brooklyn Democrats.

“I am horrified by what happened at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania and relieved that former President Trump is safe,” Schumer said in a statement. “Political violence has no place in our country.”

Former President Bill Clinton said he and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — who live in the Westchester County hamlet of Chappaqua — are “thankful that President Trump is safe, heartbroken for all those affected by the attack at today’s rally in Pennsylvania, and grateful for the swift action of the U.S. Secret Service.”

Hillary Clinton ran against Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
