Worthington adalah seorang Kristen.[6] Worthington mengatakan bahwa ketika dia berusia sekitar 30 tahun, dia menjual sebagian besar hartanya dan memiliki sekitar $2.000 atas namanya. Dia mengatakan dia membeli mobil dengan hasil tersebut dan tinggal di dalamnya sebelum dia mengikuti audisi untuk Avatar.[7] Dia kemudian menemukan tempat tinggal.[8]

Pada tanggal 18 Oktober 2013, Worthington telah mengkonfirmasi rumor hubungan dengan sesama model Australia, Lara Worthington (née Bingle).[9][10] Mereka menikah pada 28 Desember 2014 dan memiliki seorang putra pada 2015.[11] Pada 2016, Bingle dan Worthington memiliki anak kedua.[12] Pada tahun 2020 pasangan ini mengumumkan kelahiran anak ketiga mereka, seorang putra lagi.[13]
