All classes at Georgia Gwinnett are taught by highquality faculty who are here only because they love to teach. Since our classes are small, they give personal attention that other institutions can’t deliver. If you need help with an assignment or a course, they spend extra time with you, perhaps even over lunch. Our professors don’t have office hours. They are available to you in person or by e-mail, phone and text for questions. And they don’t just teach, they mentor. You will be assigned a specific faculty mentor, but all faculty fill this role. Your own private and spacious bedroom awaits you in a two-, three-, four, six-, eight- or 12-bedroom suite, with a bathroom for every two students in the suite. Each bedroom comes carpeted and fully-furnished with a comfy twin bed, night stand, dresser and desk, while living spaces feature plenty of plush seating for you to gather with friends and study, chat or watch the 46inch flat-screen television that comes standard in every suite. Gwinnett County is the second-most populous county in the state of Georgia and boasts a population of nearly 900,000 people and includes the cities of Auburn, Berkeley Lake, Buford, Dacula, Duluth, Grayson, Lilburn, Loganville, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Snellville, Sugar Hill and Suwanee. Lawrenceville, which is home to Georgia Gwinnett College, is the county seat. The county contains some of the best entertainment options in the Atlanta metro area, from the Aurora Theatre, to the Infinite Energy Center, which has drawn in such acts as Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. For sports fans, in addition to being close to major sports teams in Atlanta, Lawrenceville also has professional teams in the AAA Gwinnett Braves and Atlanta Gladiators hockey team. For shoppers, Buford’s Mall of Georgia is the largest in the state, and Lawrenceville’s Sugarloaf Mills offers unique dining and entertainment options.

Lawrenceville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area, which ranks as the ninth-largest in the United States. In addition to being one of the most accessible cities to visit in the country, it also serves as the cultural and entertainment hub of the Southeast. The city was the host of the 1996 Summer Olympics and boasts major professional sports teams in the Braves, Falcons and Hawks, and the city will add a Major League Soccer franchise in 2017. Other attractions include the world’s largest aquarium and a number of museums that highlight the city’s historical significance during both the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement. The city also offers some of the best music, dining and shopping attractions in the country.

GRIZZLY ATHLETICS Georgia Gwinnett College founded the Office of Athletics with the hiring of Director of Athletics Dr. Darin S. Wilson on July 28, 2011, and over that time, the Grizzlies have become a truly dominant force within the NAIA.

The first athletic events took place on August 25, 2012, with a soccer doubleheader against Tennessee Temple, which saw the men and women combine to beat the Crusaders 21-1. The impressive athletic achievements have continued ever since, highlighted by back-to-back NAIA championships by the men’s tennis team. The women’s tennis team also won a national championship in its first season of eligibility in 2014, while men’s soccer, baseball and softball have each taken home A.I.I. titles over the past two seasons. All six Grizzly teams have achieved All-Americans over the past two years, and GGC squads are consistently ranked among the nation’s top 25.

GRIZZLY ATHLETICS State-of-the-Art
FACILITIES
The Grizzly Athletics Complex, complete with facilities for baseball, softball and soccer as well as a 25,000-square-foot administration building, was completed in 2013. The complex, which sits adjacent to the main entrance to campus, was built in a step-like manner to take advantage of the natural topography and welcome the GGC community and visitors to campus. The Grizzly Soccer Complex was the first to open and features a synthetic-turf playing surface with ample bleacher and hillside seating. The Grizzly Baseball and Softball Complexes feature natural grass fields, full dugouts and press boxes. The baseball stadium seats 800 and the softball stadium can accommodate 500. The main Athletics building hosts coaches’ and administrative offices, team locker rooms and meeting rooms, a weight room, sports medicine facilities, hospitality suites and a dedicated academic support center. The nearby GGC Tennis Facility features 16 fullylit playing courts, locker rooms, player lounges, a weight room and a pro shop, and sits just a half mile away from the main Athletics Complex.

WILSON
Inaugural Director of Athletics National Athletics Director of the Year Dr. Darin S. Wilson established the Office of Athletics at Georgia Gwinnett College in late 2011 with the vision of being one of the nation’s premier programs. Off to an incredibly quick start, the Grizzlies are in the process of becoming just that. The Grizzlies seek to develop lifelong leaders of character through academic and athletic excellence, inspired by Wilson’s devotion to the student-athlete experience. He has instilled the program’s five core values of Service, Responsibility, Leadership, Sportsmanship and the Pursuit of Excellence. Committed to the idea of continuing professional development, Wilson holds a number of influential positions within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and helps shape policy at the organization’s highest levels. He currently serves on the NAIA’s National Administrative Council, as well as on the NAIA’s Athletic Directors Association Executive Committee. Additionally, he is on the Executive Committee of the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.), of which GGC is a member. Wilson’s drive to provide an unparalleled student-athlete experience committed to character-driven intercollegiate athletics has resulted in tremendous early success for the Grizzlies, who currently field teams in baseball, softball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s tennis. In under four seasons, the Grizzlies have already captured three NAIA national championships, five A.I.I. championships and an NAIA Champions of Character team award. In addition, dozens of student-athletes have earned All-American status, Scholar-Athlete recognition and President’s List distinction. During the program’s very first season of postseason eligibility in 2013-14, four of the Grizzlies’ six teams competed in the NAIA national tournament, each reaching a national top-10 ranking. Eighteen players secured All-American status over the course of the year and the men’s and women’s tennis teams delivered GGC’s first-ever national titles on May 17, 2014, in Mobile, Ala. Through three-plus seasons on the field, the Grizzlies have far exceeded expectations with a 405-163-12 (.698) overall record across all sports through Fall 2015, earning a pair of conference championships in men’s soccer, plus one each in men’s tennis, baseball and softball. For much of this success, and his impact on the student-athlete experience, Wilson was recognized with his second career Under Armour NAIA Athletics Director of the Year Award in summer, 2015. The Grizzlies also have successfully bid for and hosted postseason championships in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball and baseball, with men’s and women’s tennis joining that list in spring 2016.

Student-athletes at Georgia Gwinnett College compete at the state-of-the-art Grizzly Athletics Complex, a $15 million facility which features baseball, softball, soccer and tennis complexes, plus a 25,000-square-foot Athletics building with staff offices, team locker rooms, a weight room, training areas, hospitality suites and academic resource space. Wilson was instrumental in the concept, development and construction phases of the entire project, delivering the Grizzlies one of the nation’s elite athletic complexes. Wilson chairs GGC’s intercollegiate athletics committee, and with Wilson’s leadership, the college successfully completed admission into the NAIA in April of 2012. August 25, 2012 marked the historic Opening Day for Grizzly Athletics, with a pair of men’s and women’s soccer victories highlighting the occasion. Wilson looks forward to the athletic program’s continued growth and progress at a rapid rate. He brought a wealth of experience to his position as GGC’s first Director of Athletics, coming from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. He had served as the athletics director since 2003, following a five-year stint as baseball coach. His departure ended 18 years of involvement with Union, from an undergraduate student-athlete to leading the athletics program.
the athletic booster club and managing a multi-million dollar operational and scholarship budget. For his accomplishments, Wilson was selected as the 2010-2011 NAIA National Athletics Director of the Year in the spring of 2012. He was recognized as the AAC Athletic Director of the Year in 2008, 2009 and 2011, the NAIA Region XII Athletic Director of the Year in 2008, and the 2009-10 NAIA Under Armour AD of the Year for the Southeast Region by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Wilson’s time as a coach and player at Union were marked by success as well. He posted a 161-106-1 baseball coaching record and was named the 2001 Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year, setting a school record with 41 wins. As an undergraduate, Wilson was selected as Male Athlete of the Year while playing for Union. His collegiate playing career began on the diamond at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Wilson has a master’s in education from Union College and a Ph.D. in higher education leadership from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He resides in Gwinnett County with his wife, Natalie, and has two children, Drew and Mara.
During Wilson’s time at Union, the college won 47 Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships, four Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference titles, and six NAIA Region XII championships. Union was awarded the AAC Duard Walker All-Sports Trophy for the first time in school history in 2010. Forty-seven players were named NAIA ScholarAthletes, and four players were selected as CoSIDA Academic All-America Team members. Wilson oversaw extensive renovation of Union’s sports facilities, including baseball and football locker room remodels, new scoreboards and press boxes, the installation of a $1 million synthetic turf multi-purpose field, and the expansion of athletic training facilities. The athletics overhaul made Union’s facilities some of the best in the NAIA. Wilson also grew Union’s department of athletics from 15 intercollegiate programs to 23, while effectively revitalizing

Head Coach Head Coach Fourth Season 4TH SEASON Tennessee Temple ‘95 The first-ever head coach of the Georgia Gwinnett College softball program, Kat Ihlenburg has developed the Grizzlies into a championship squad built upon toughness, character and a devotion to its community. Named head coach at GGC on February 1, 2012, Ihlenburg has already led the Grizzlies to an Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) tournament championship, a trip to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament, and recognition as the NAIA Champions of Character team award winner. Through three full seasons, the Grizzly softball program has totaled a 94-52-1 (.639) record and is coming off back-to-back 30-plus-win seasons entering 2016. Ihlenburg was named A.I.I. Co-Coach of the Year in 2015, leading the Grizzlies to their firstever conference title and national tournament bid. The 2015 GGC squad posted a 37-16 record under Ihlenburg and was marked by a dominating performance at home at the Grizzly Softball Complex. The Grizzlies went 26-2 in Lawrenceville on the season, winning their first 22 consecutive home games to start the year. Senior infielder Cassidy Littlefield cemented herself as one of the top players in the country, earning her second straight NAIA First-Team All-American nod and being named unanimous A.I.I. Player of the Year. Littlefield, who led the nation in triples (8), was third in runs scored (75) and stood sixth in stolen bases (40), was a leader for Ihlenburg’s squad that led the NAIA with 35 total triples and stood 10th with 99 doubles. A number of additional Grizzlies stood inside the nation’s top 25 in several offensive categories. Junior outfielder Abby Hulsey, who ranked eighth in the country with 20 doubles, was named A.I.I. Newcomer of the Year, while junior pitcher Ashley Beyke, who had a 2.74 ERA in a team-high 117.2 innings, earned A.I.I. Co-Pitcher of the Year honors. Eight total Grizzlies, including four first-teamers, took home all-conference accolades. The Grizzlies rolled to a 32-14 regular season record and the No. 3 seed for the A.I.I. tournament, which was held in Lawrenceville for the second straight year. A perfect four-game run, including an epic 10-inning victory to reach the finals, sealed the first-ever postseason title for Ihlenburg’s team. GGC reached a No. 21 national ranking heading into its first NAIA national tournament, as the Grizzlies were sent to a regional hosted by defending national champion Auburn Montgomery (Ala.). While the trip saw the Grizzlies earn a 1-0 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan for the program’s first-ever NAIA postseason win, a pair of close defeats to No. 20 Davenport would end GGC’s stellar season. The 2014 season, GGC’s first as a fully-eligible NAIA member, saw Ihlenburg lay a championship foundation for her program by guiding Georgia Gwinnett to an outstanding 3910-1 record. The Grizzlies earned votes for the first time in the Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, claimed their first-ever postseason victory, and boasted four all-conference selections, including A.I.I. Co-Player of the Year Cassidy Littlefield. Littlefield would go on to become the program’s first-ever All-American in 2014, earning first-team status after finishing second in the country with 1.80 hits per game, and finishing inside the nation’s top 10 in 11 different offensive categories. As a team, the Grizzlies made huge strides from the previous season, raising their year-over-year batting average from .289 to .340 and their total scoring from 226 runs to 351, while lowering the pitching staff’s ERA from 4.54 to 2.92. Ihlenburg’s squad particularly hit its stride during the final month of the year, going 22-3-1 to end the regular season. That set the Grizzlies up to host postseason action for the first time with the 2014 A.I.I. Softball Championships in Lawrenceville. The Grizzlies came out swinging, tasting victory in their first chance to do so with a 5-2 win over Lindenwood-Belleville on May 1. GGC then pushed the nation’s No. 3 team to the edge in an eight-inning slugfest, but eventually fell, 14-13, to top-seeded LSU Alexandria. The Grizzlies

would be eliminated from the tournament the following day, but not before setting the tone that big things were in store for Ihlenburg’s program. The most prestigious team award came after 2014 competition had ended. For its outstanding efforts embracing the NAIA’s core values, the GGC squad was named the 2014 Buffalo Funds NAIA Champions of Character Softball Team award winner, being selected from the NAIA’s 200 softballplaying institutions. The Grizzlies take part in numerous community efforts, including working with Special Olympics Georgia and Relay for Life, plus volunteer at many on-campus events and hold youth clinics in the area. Building leaders of character focused on service to the community have been hallmarks of Ihlenburg’s program. The 2014 year was also the first full season for GGC playing in the sparkling new Grizzly Softball Complex. Opened on April 17, 2013, the final day of GGC’s inaugural campaign, the Grizzly Softball Complex is the state-ofthe-art, on-campus facility that Ihlenburg’s squad calls home. The facility features a top-notch natural grass playing surface and bleacher seating for 500, among its other highlights, and sits just steps away from the Grizzly Softball locker room and Grizzly Athletics Building.
Belgium, Italy, the Czech Republic and the Dominican Republic- for USA Athletes International and American International Sports Teams. She also has directed and been an instructor for softball camps at Georgia Gwinnett College, Georgia Tech, the College of Charleston, the University of Alabama, North Carolina State University, Reinhardt University, Tennessee Tech and the University of Tennessee. The Grizzly Softball Complex routinely plays host to elite showcases and other prospect events with organizations such as On Deck Softball, Champions Fastpitch Academy and College Coaches Skills Camp thanks in large part to Ihlenburg’s efforts. Ihlenburg grew up in Nashville, Tenn., and graduated from Father Ryan High School. She and her husband, Mark, have one child, Elizabeth, and reside in Gwinnett County.
The 2013 season, when GGC was not yet eligible for national rankings, awards or postseason play, saw Ihlenburg build out Georgia Gwinnett’s very first roster, coaching staff and competitive schedule. The Grizzlies did not yet have a permanent facility to call home, so the team played much of its season away from home and also utilized another local venue in going 18-26 overall. Ihlenburg steered the Grizzlies to an upset of #9 Reinhardt (Ga.), an eventual 2013 NAIA national championship participant, during the season. The victory was one of 12 games against the NAIA’s Top 25 as Ihlenburg’s team tackled a challenging first-year schedule. Ihlenburg brought eight years of previous collegiate softball coaching experience to her position at Georgia Gwinnett College. She spent seven years as an assistant at the College of Charleston (S.C.) to then-head coach Shelly Hoerner, for whom she played collegiately. During Ihlenburg’s time with the Cougars, 26 players were selected as All-Conference members for the Southern Conference. Two athletes were named conference Player of the Year and one Pitcher of the Year, while three players were named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region team. Prior to her time in Charleston, Ihlenburg spent one season on the staff at Reinhardt University in Waleska, Ga. As a player, Ihlenburg caught and played outfield for Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. She helped guide the Buccaneers to the 2002 Division II College World Series and set a new school single-season wins record. She graduated from Barry in 2004 with a bachelor of arts in public relationss. One of the most lethal hitters in the country and an extremely versatile athlete, Cassidy Littlefield made an emphatic mark in her two seasons as a Grizzly, posting back-to-back NAIA First-Team AllAmerican seasons. The Slocomb, Ala., native helped guide the Grizzlies to their first-ever postseason championship and NAIA tournament appearance, posting eye-popping numbers to headline the GGC record books. As a junior in 2014, Littlefield was second in the nation with 1.80 hits per game, ranked third in stolen bases (47) and triples (9), fifth in total bases per game (2.74), standing inside the nation’s top 15 in 17 different individual categories. Her .474 batting average and 62 runs scored led the Grizzlies, two of a number of ranks in which she paced the team as she claimed both Association of Independent Institutions Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors in earning first-team all conference accolades. Her First Team NAIA All-American selection at the end of the year made her GGC’s first-ever All-American in program history.

As a senior in 2015, Littlefield picked up right where she had left off the year before, vaulting to the nation’s top 15 in 14 different individual categories including first in triples (8), third in runs scored per game (1.42) and sixth in stolen bases (40). Once again, her stat line led the GGC squad as she posted a .775 slugging percentage, plated 75 runs and drilled seven homers. On May 29, 2015, she earned her second straight First Team NAIA All-American selection to solidify herself among the nation’s best players and as a beacon for the Grizzlies’ program. She also added an NFCA AllAmerican selection- the first in program history- on June 2.

June 5, 2014 For its outstanding efforts embracing the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ core values, the Georgia Gwinnett softball program has been named the 2014 Buffalo Funds NAIA Champions of Character Softball Team award winner. Head coach Kat Ihlenburg’s Grizzlies earned the prestigious award for their dedication to the initiative’s core principles of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. They were selected as the lone winner among 200 softball-playing NAIA institutions. “The Georgia Gwinnett College softball team has been selected based upon their display of exemplary character and sportsmanship on the field, campus, and in the community,” said Mac Stephenson, NAIA Softball Championship Administrator. One team winner is selected for each of the NAIA’s 23 championship sports each year. “It is awesome to be recognized with this award,” said Ihlenburg. “This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by our players and we are extremely proud. This validates their enthusiasm to live out these core principles all year long.” The Grizzlies have taken part in numerous community efforts, working with Special Olympics Georgia, Relay for Life and Dream House Atlanta- an organization that assists families with medically fragile children. The team has helped staff multiple events, doing everything from setup and coordinating to cheering on participants and lending valuable time as mentors. The team also has gone into local parks to offer youth clinics and partnered with nearby high school athletic associations. The Grizzlies’ support has earned them many new fans who have returned the favor, cheering on GGC on the diamond. The squad has developed bonds with many different groups, including those who face significant challenges. “Our seniors made it a point to ask that we always keep these efforts going as a foundation of our program,” Ihlenburg added. “We always walk away as a better team for our involvement. We gain valuable perspective on the opportunities that we have in our role at GGC.” The Grizzlies also have built a reputation as a squad that stays involved on campus. The team often participates in and helps organize College efforts, looking to strengthen its relationship with the fellow student body, GGC faculty and staff. The players also have volunteered as staff at other Grizzly Athletics contests, helping provide visitors a first-class experience. On the diamond, the Grizzlies’ sportsmanship has been recognized by opposing coaches, officials and fans. Many have reached out after competition or in the following days to commend the Grizzlies on the way they handle themselves. Ihlenburg’s team lives by its motto, “TRI”- Trust, Respect, Integrity- which lines up with not only the Champions of Character Initiative, but with the Grizzly Athletics core values. “The softball program has done an outstanding job representing Grizzly Athletics and Georgia Gwinnett College,” said Dr. Darin S. Wilson, GGC’s Director of Athletics. “From the very beginning, coach Ihlenburg has built her program based on high-character individuals who echo our values of service, leadership, responsibility, respect and pursuing excellence. Georgia Gwinnett went 39-10-1 this spring. The team hosted the 2014 Association of Independent Institutions championship tournament, received votes in the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll and had the program’s first-ever First Team All-American. “This team has more character and heart than any other team I have played on,” said senior infielder Heaven Hinton. “We are humble and hungry Grizzlies and being a team of character is what Grizzly Softball is all about.”
