If you want some yummy craft cocktails made with Mexican flavors and a seasoned bartender with enough personality to keep you captivated, head to Rosa Mexicano at Miracle Mile Shops. Out on the restaurant’s patio, find bartender Devon Alexander. “My favorite thing to say is, ‘This is my office,’” he says. “If I’m bartending it’s gonna be a good time. I like to enjoy myself and I always make sure my guests enjoy themselves.”
Alexander has been bartending for years now, but he didn’t come to Las Vegas for the craft. He came to the city a dozen years ago to further his professional basketball career, having played in countries like Mongolia and Germany. His career got put on hold when he became a full-time dad. “That’s when I switched careers to security at nightclubs, and from there I decided to get into bartending, something I always wanted to do,” Alexander says.
He worked his way up the ladder at various bars and properties across the city and eventually his sharpened skills and magnetic personality landed him at one of the best cocktail spots in the city, Golden Tiki. “That’s one of the best jobs I’ve ever had,” he says. “I really learned a lot there when it comes to craft cocktails.” A few years later, Alexander joined Rosa Mexicano and helped open the restaurant last fall.
“I’ve been very fortunate in my bartending career,” he says. “I’ve made great friends and connections, and I could not have done it without them.”
Alexander has nothing but love for Vegas, and while he moved here for a completely different career, he is now doing what he truly loves, he says. “Come to my bar and I’ll tell you where to eat, drink, have fun—I have 15 answers for everything. Come see me!”
Libation: Spicy Cucumber Margarita
Rosa Mexicano offers delicious twists on the classic margarita like the Spicy Cucumber Margarita. “It has kick,” Alexander says.
