My father bought it and it's kinda decent for it's price. Problem is that it lags when recording a game. Still wish he bought a POCO X6

It'll be 8 months on July 2nd, and all I can say that it's a perfect daily driver for social media people. Yes, it has irksome bugs here and there, but barely problematic. Further, my Note 12 has good battery life; it's giving me a solid 7-8 hours SOT for social media and video content consumption. My gaming experience has been okay-ish with medium graphics games. No, the Redmi Note 12 isn't a phone built for PUBG/FREEFIRE/CODM-esque games. Although you can play these games, but at a cost; battery drains, throttling, heating, etc. In other words, you'll stress out the phone and cut its age to half - or less.

P.S. I'm using black themes/wallpapers to keep the Amoled screen going hale and hearty for at least 2 years.

P.S.S I definitely recommend this phone to social media people. Last but not least: nor better, camera sucks big time.

I've been seeing a few positive experiences with HyperOS on this phone here lately. As I mentioned, this could be due to the higher RAM. I did hear that HyperOS is best for phones with 8GB RAM, and that any bugs and lag will improve over time with updates and as your phone adjusts to the new operating system. I also heard that HyperOS works better with Android 14 phones than the Android 13 that comes with this phone. I don't think that is the case for phones with 4GB RAM.

My advice to all users is that if you are enjoying the current MIUI, don't risk its performance just for frivolous features, like Magazine wallpapers and photo Cutouts. As I said, the new wallpaper is not even available to all phones with HyperOS. There are plenty of wallpaper options in the Themes app anyway. Remember, you can update to a new OS anytime, but you cannot reverse it, not without installing an unofficial custom ROM that invalidates your manufacturer's guarantee. You can try rolling it back by unlocking bootloader, but I haven't seen anyone attempt this on HyperOS yet, and it will cause data loss. A factory reset will not bring back the previous OS. Only consider updating if you're unhappy with the current speed, battery life, stability and security, when apps and features stop working or become incompatible with your device, and after you've tried everything else to fix these problems.

To those who enjoy MIUI and those who newly purchased this device, here's how you can improve your experience, remove ads from system apps, and prevent your phone from updating to HyperOS (without root):

                      1. When setting up your new phone, under Additional Settings, turn off Automatic System Updates and Personalised Ads.

                      2. Disable Updater and MIUI System Ads (msa) in Authorisation & Revocation. Optional: Disable MIUI Daemon (tracker) and System Apps Updater or disable Auto Updates in System Apps Updater. Enable Developer Options and turn off Automatic System Updates. Click on Reset to Default Values several times and turn off MIUI Optimisation to increase RAM usage.

                      3. Turn off Recommendations under About in File Manager Settings, and turn off Show Ads and Personalised Recommendations in Themes Settings. Optional: Apply a private DNS provider host name, such as Adguard. Note that this may prevent ads you do want and may affect internet connectivity.

                      4. Uninstall all preinstalled non-system apps you don't use. Optional: Download a third-party app like Activity Launcher, to create shortcuts for hidden system features, like Dual Apps and Second Space (may cause data loss).

                      5. Apply App Lock to Updater, Gallery, File Manager etc, and hide your Settings and Security icons in a folder or app tray to prevent yourself from making accidental changes to your phone.

                      6. If you're having trouble multitasking, regularly clear your cache and make use of the floating windows feature. Turn on and increase the Memory Extension to create virtual ram. You can also enable background Autostart for your most important apps, and set them to No Restrictions so that the apps aren't affected by the battery saver.

                      7. If you want to prevent lagging on a particular app or make your app feel smoother while gaming, do the opposite of the above, or adjust the refresh rate from 60 to 120hz.

                      8. Enjoy your phone! Download your favourite apps and sync all your devices. Organise your home screen with widgets and folders. Personalise your display, sound, keyboard, always-on and lockscreen, drop down menu, status bar, wallpaper, battery saver, default search engine and browser, and notifications. Close your windows often, delete unimportant files and unused apps, set up cloud storage, back-up, and Find Device. Add a microSD card, anti-virus if needed, and reboot your phone now and then.

Unlike installing an OS update, all of these changes can be undone very easily.

Another CON I've discovered is that the MIUI 14 on budget phones has far fewer features than MIUI 14 on Xiaomi's top-of-the-line models. The MIUI 14 on this phone is more like MIUI 13. That being said, it's still worlds better than HyperOS, from my experience, which itself lacks many features on budget phones for global customers. If only Xiaomi had improved the features for budget phones, instead of releasing a new OS with even fewer features...

I think I've covered all that I know. I recently had a bad dream that I lost my phone, and then lost my mind on the lovely sweet person who found it and updated it for me... I need to take a break, lol.

My Redmi Note 12 4G is Now more than 7 months old and i upgrade it already in Hyper Os last 1st week of February 2024 and untill now my phone is still doing great , it can last a whole day in my casual ussage in Standard 60 Hertz screen refresh rate using Data network in 90 percent Screen brightness on swipping and browsing Social Media app and Google Crome and I've been always set the speaker in 40 to 60 percent in watching movie's..I didn't fully charge my phone since I bought it , when I'm charging the device I used to always check the phone when it's
already 85 to 90 percent then I will unplug it quickly I'm also not unto overnight charging while sleeping because the phone can also charge fast, it takes only more or less than 35 minutes from charging my Redmi Note 12 to 20 up to 90 percent, and I didn't wait to drain my battery below 20 percent before I charge it again. When it comes to performance it was the same as before I upgrade it from Miui to Hyper Os, Wifi and Data connection is very good . Application's can be open very fast and the screen is mooth , also playing Mobile Legends in this phone in very high graphics and ultra frame rate is nice but the Phone temperature is depends on the ambient of your place if it's hot or cold but even flagship phone's can heat up when playing games if you max all the setting's specially if you're in a hot erea and your not using phone coller ... INFORMATION: All phones had this issue not only some, If you are playing games and when your phones application got an update in Play store while you we're playing online games it will appect your playing you will experience log even your phone is not heating up because you're in a cold room or place or you are using electric fan to your phone and the internet nor data connection is good because phones Frame per second will instantly gonna reduce more than 5 seconds and sometimes more than a seconds , everybody experience this issue specially all Android user's but only few knows the reason why . . .

I use the Redmi Note 12 4G for 1 year and i updated it to HyperOS and no issues to my phone. And i think it just good and more customization for the wallpapers is good .I think that the minus for HyperOS In Redmi Note 12 4G is ,it doesnt the same with my mom's Xiaomi 13T . Like the animation, Blurred control panels etc. (HyperOS Indonesia).

Prolog, 27 May 2024What's with the WiFi / Mobile Data Network connectivit... moreHave you ruled out the possibility that it could be a modem router/ISP issue? If both the Wi-Fi and Data switch off at the same time, then it's probably an issue with the device. I hope this isn't the result of not updating the OS. If it is, then I believe this is planned obsolescence by Xiaomi Inc.

I actually have a theory (a bit of a conspiracy theory, I must admit) that Xiaomi realised we budget phone customers have it too good, and they're running out of ideas for new, innovative features. So I think Xiaomi created HyperOS to take MIUI features away, release them again in the future, and make certain features available only to mid-range and flagship phone customers, thus pushing customers to buy their more expensive models. This is evident in the new Depth Effect/Magazine lockscreen they boasted about, which is not available on budget phones. The performance of HyperOS is also slower and heavier on lower RAM phones, but they designed it on the iPhone to give it a "premium" illusion. This leads me on to the other CONS I've since discovered...

                                - I've seen a review by a tech YouTuber where he expressed his disappointment that this phone doesn't have Dual Apps (a Xiaomi feature that duplicates an app to run separately on one device) and Second Space (a Xiaomi feature that creates another phone interface on one device). I discovered that these features are actually HIDDEN from view under "Security Core Component".
The only way I was able to access these features was by installing a third party app from Google Play Store which uncovers these features and creates an icon for them, such as Activity Launcher. The downsides to this are 1) it's hidden, 2) it's a security risk, 3) it can cause data loss, and 4) I hear it could root your phone, making other apps unusable and invalidating your guarantee/insurance.
I have clicked on Dual Apps, and it did load, but I haven't tried it yet, so I can't say whether or not it works on this phone. I will try it in the future as I'd like to have a second Whatsapp for my dual SIM. I don't need Second Space, so I haven't clicked on it, but I can see its uses, for example; letting someone borrow your phone without worrying about your privacy, preventing thieves from accessing your information, separating work life and private life, etc.

                                - I've mentioned previously about enabling a Private DNS, such as Adguard, to block ads from system apps, like File Manager. If you do this, you will not be able to request video ads, for example, in games. So if you want to get a free item in a game, you may want to disable the Private DNS.

To balance out the cons, I'll add a PRO I've since discovered:
                                - App Lock allows a user to add an extra layer of protection by keeping an app behind a pattern and fingerprint lock. As far I can see, you'll only need to enter your passcode once per log-in. This feature is not available for all apps, however, in particular the system apps. I use this for my banking app, my phone payment apps, and my main email app. I might use this for my messaging apps too.

I'll update you all on any more pros and cons I discover. My locations on this site are listed as HKx and pKf (I'm not signed up). In the meantime, tell me your opinion about my theory. And if anyone wants me to collate all the things I did to improve my experience of this phone with MIUI, let me know.

                                ~"Rook" from London :)

What's with the WiFi / Mobile Data Network connectivity? When I enable them from drop down menu, sometimes they work and sometimes not; I have to manually enable them but turning off and on again - from 3g go LTE, etc. Anyone facing this issue?

I originally spent £123 for a brand new phone (which would be classed as a budget phone in the UK), but I did get a price difference refund when the price dropped. Amazon UK is currently selling it for £120 (with free delivery) on the same listing. I do suggest you read my comments in full to prevent yourself making the same mistakes I did.

Other minor CONS I've since discovered: There's no separate volume control for system apps and notifications. The default keyboard is Gboard and its clipboard only saves copied items for one hour if they are not pinned. However, I think both of these issues could perhaps be fixed using other apps.
