Who Is Stan Smith?

The adidas Stan Smith made its debut in 1965, at which time it was known as the adidas Robert Haillet, reflecting the brand’s endorsement of the popular French tennis player. It was in 1978, after Haillet’s retirement from the sport, that the shoes became the Stan Smith in recognition of yet another tennis player, this time of American background. Smith’s name, as well as his image, became prominent features on the tongue, and his landmark deal has gone down as one of the most successful in history.

Features of the Originals Stan Smith

When Stan Smith sneakers first landed on the scene, they became the first tennis shoes to employ the use of a leather upper. In the leather were lines of perforations for additional ventilation, which substituted for the three stripes that traditionally identified a collection from adidas.
