WHAT:
August 2 is designated as National Computer Aided Design (CAD) Day to raise awareness about the incredible advances in computer technology which have driven innovation in engineering, planning, architecture and construction.
CAD is software that creates 2D and 3D designs that replicate real-life design needs. The first CAD software, Sketchpad, was invented by Ivan Sutherland in 1963. Prior to that all infrastructure, architecture and engineering plans were drafted by hand without any comprehensive visual of how all the moving parts of a project would work together as a system. 1970 marked the beginning of the age of 3D CAD, and today the technology continues to advance to support the design and development of communities.
