No access to the journals of the "Royal Society of Chemistry" (RSC)

I should currently have access to the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Gold collection including several scientific journals - as also indicated on my Wikipedia Library landing page. When I attempted to access an article published in the RSC journal "Energy and Environmental Science" that should be included, I could not access the content, i.e., the content was beyond the paywall. @Espresso robusta Thanks for the heads up, looks like our access has lapsed. Unfortunately we haven't heard from our contact there in a little while so I'm not sure how quickly this will be resolved, but we'll do what we can. On the bright side, that journal has a 25 % open access preservation rate, vs. a 15 % average for RSC, so you might have good luck by using Unpaywall in your browser. :) Nemo 20:24, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

The British Newspaper Archive access

The link to the BNA doesn't provide access as such, it just has a "go to site". The site doesn't recognize Wikipedia. Can you look into this, thanks? Procureur2014 (talk) 08:50, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Oh, now it works for me, too! But the individual papers or books are displayed incorrectly. As if you have to pay for it, the titles are yellow, and a lock can be seen. So it seems, you can`t download them. But when I click on the titels I can download them. Confusing. --Kogge (talk) 06:29, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

It hasn't worked for me either for months. It doesn't recognize my login anymore. On the list of my available databases it has a little note: "Service Information - Ongoing work may impact access T322916" Dan Carkner (talk) 16:49, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

How does 'Suggest a collection' work?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. I was looking at the Suggest a collection page, and there's no indication of when each suggestion was made, if the collection holder had been contacted, or if it had been declined. Would it be possible to add additional information so we can see how long those suggestions have been there for? Or just some information on what the process is? @Jimmyjrg Thanks for the suggestion - I agree this is an opaque process. We've tried at various times to develop a system for providing clearer updates on how and when partner suggestions are progressing. Unfortunately this hasn't been feasible to keep up with due to how the partnership process goes. We are constantly attempting to make contact with dozens of different requested organisations. Many times our emails go entirely unanswered, sometimes we get through to someone but they don't know who to pass our request on to, sometimes we get into lengthy discussions which lead nowhere, and occasionally we actually get through to signing an agreement. Because of all the repeated communication and dead-ends it hasn't been particularly satisfying for anyone involved to keep trying to provide community updates on each request. We're only a small team, with one person leading the partnerships, and it would take a substantial amount of our time to provide updates on each of these requests. How long a request has been sitting on the suggested page isn't particularly instructive because it doesn't mean that we can't or won't get access to that collection, we usually just haven't been able to make the right connection with someone at that organisation to get a partnership underway yet.

All that said, what I can say is that all of these suggestions are combined alongside internal priority rankings, and we're constantly sending off emails, attending events, and having conversations, to try to add new collections to the library. So please do add new suggestions and upvote the ones you're interested in, because this helps us rank our priorities! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 09:49, 15 June 2023 (UTC)

FindMyPast voucher not working?

I just got approved for FindMyPast via the Wikipedia library. I signed up for an account and then went to the voucher URL as described in the email I got and entered the code frommy email. The message I got was "The voucher code entered doesn't seem to be working. Double check it has been entered correctly, it hasn't expired and you haven't used it before. If you are using a code to claim a discount rather than redeem a subscription, this can be activated here." I did double check the code. British Newspaper Archive

Hi, I applied for, and was granted, Wikipedia Library access to the British Newspaper Archive. However, between my last personal subscription expiring and receiving the details for Wikipedia Library access, I decided to resubscribe for another year. Can't access article at Taylor & Francis.

I've logged in to my TWL account and found the article I want (https://www-tandfonline-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/doi/full/10.1080/08998280.2022.2078636?scroll=top&needAccess=true&role=tab) but when I click the green "Read this article" button, it just gives me purchase options and asks me to login. Access problems Science Direct

Hi, possibly there are problems to access Science Direct (Elsevier) articles. I tried to download Cell and The Lancet papers, but I had no access to articles not published as open-access papers. The free Google historical newspaper search has returned

https://news.google.com/newspapers - This page never went away, but the search function there was severely limited for several years. It appears to be fixed now. The archived newspapers and magazines seem to range from the 19th century to around 2009, and coverage of some is very partial, but it is better than nothing. Access problem with De Gruyter

Access to the De Gruyter collection seems to be interrupted, since approx. 27. August 2023. De Gryuter indicates, that an "internal server error" did occur. This only happens when using EZProxy. So this seems to be related to an internal change at De Gruyter breaking access over EZProxy. Flyingfischer (talk) 07:18, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

Problem with FindMyPast

I have trouble with getting access to FindMyPast. I was approved in May, but did not get any access code for two months. Complaining in the application's discussion did not get any replies whatsoever. I finally made a renewal application in July and did get an access code, but it did not work. I did exactly as instructed: I created an account with FindMyPast, logged in, then went to https://www.findmypast.co.uk/voucher, entered the code as instructed and clicked Submit. As a result, I only got an error message saying "The voucher code entered doesn't seem to be working." Two more complaints, but no reply. So I made another renewal application. Got the code yesterday, tried to redeem it today, again did exactly as instructed (see above), and got the same error message "The voucher code entered doesn't seem to be working."

Something must be fundamentally wrong here. But what? Why does this not work? I've gained access to some other sites through the Wikipedia Library, and those always worked. Rosenzweig (talk) 16:59, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

@Rosenzweig We've been having a number of problems with BNA and Findmypast voucher codes unfortunately, including having them all revoked and reinstated with a new batch. You're not the only one facing issues with Findmypast at the moment, so we're in contact with them again to investigate. In terms of Findmypast/BNA the situation is potentially turning out to be more complicated than anticipated so we're trying to sort through this to provide clear information to folks. We're just trying to clarify how these codes should work with BNA because they recently told us they should be activated via the Subscribe page instead, but that seems to require entering payment information. I know there is a JSTOR article at https://www.jstor.org/stable/29742494. When I'm logged into JSTOR via TWL, this article does not show up in search results. "Archival" sounds about right to me. I am mostly getting this problem with older material, like this one, not with brand-new journal articles. Rather frustrating, because this older material is of much lower intellectual property value to begin with, and hardly needs this sort of pay-walling. I had access to Newspaper.com and Newspaperarchive, however now that I have changed my device, I have completely forgot my email and/or password (I'm not even sure which part did I forget). @Gerald Waldo Luis Unfortunately that's out of our hands - without proof that the old account belonged to you (presumably impossible now that you can't log in to it) we have no way to verify the link between the accounts, so you'll need to follow any on-wiki advice available to you to recover your account, if possible. Miramar Ship Index

I got an email saying that my application for the Miramar Ship Index has been approved (thank you for that) and I followed the instructions given (create a 7 day trial account and enter "The Wikipedia Library" into the field "organization"). JSTOR login

Hey. I've only recently got access to the Library and tried JSTOR as my first database. When I go to the JSTOR site through the link, there's a top banner saying "Access provided by Wikipedia", but that doesn't seem to give any additional functionality. When I try to sign in via institution with Wikipedia, I get "Although Wikipedia participates in JSTOR, we were unable to provide you with a way to log in remotely. Check your library's website for access info or contact your librarian who manages JSTOR for your institution." There's another thread here about the Youtube video on how to use JSTOR for WP being private, but that doesn't help much besides learning that it's been a problem since at least that time. "Wikipedia Library applications await your review" emails are belated

I review applications for some library resources. Usually I get an email every week or so. Today I got an email that said I had twelve applications and some of them were dating back to the 6th of October. I'm not sure how often it's supposed to drop me an email but this seems like maybe not often enough? I did check spam/trash, I hadn't gotten another email from Wikipedia since September. ProQuest

While searching the ProQuest database earlier today, I encountered the following error: "Available Product Permission Error. An error has been detected in the configuration of the account's product permissions. This is an error in the ProQuest account setup; please contact your library to report this error or contact ProQuest Customer Support to correct this issue." I also noticed that when I click "Access collection" from my Wikipedia Library home page, my browser no longer navigates to the ProQuest site; instead it says "This site can't be reached". I tried to reach a book digitized by the Royal Library Copenhagen and got We're sorry, your institution doesn't have access to this article through ProQuest. ProQuest seems the only way for non-residents of Denmark to access the digitized collections of the Royal Library. JSTOR access

It's 6 months that JSTOR access on wikipedia library is unavailable (400 Bad Request, Request Header Or Cookie Too Large)... Are there any news? Friniate (talk) 13:53, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

I did multiple times and it didn't seem to work, although now I've tried with the incognito mode and it works! I don't understand why but thank you! XD By the way, EZproxy is also signalled as unsafe internet site by my antivirus, the access was blocked and I had to specifically say that I wanted to continue. The Wikipedia Library now available as a link in Google Scholar

A quick announcement that you can now add The Wikipedia Library as a link from Google Scholar results! This should match our holdings and send you through the library's proxy, so if you find a result in Scholar that's in the library, you can get quick and direct access to it.

1. Go to https://scholar.google.com/ while logged in to a Google account.
2. Click the hamburger menu in the top corner and click Settings
3. In the 'Library links' menu, search for Wikipedia
4. Check the box next to "The Wikipedia Library - The Wikipedia Library"
5. Click Save.
6. You should now see "The Wikipedia Library" links next to applicable search results.

One minor issue with this is that the first screen you'll end up on from the results page will usually error, and you need to click the "open the page in a new window" link at the top. OCLC Classify is being discontinued

I have been using the OCLC Classify service to add OCLC work identifiers to books on Wikidata. May need a bot

I found out that when we use newspapers.com as a source we should create a clipping and link to it. However, when I did that, JPxG corrected my link. I asked this person what the procedure was and got no response. But if I copy the link to the clipping directly, I am asked to sign in, and I guess the objective is to allow anyone, signed in or not, to see the clipping.Vchimpanzee (talk) 22:24, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

See en:w:Wikipedia:NEWSPAPERSDESCHMUTZ; www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org should be changed to newspapers.com. The proxy link doesn't let people view the clippings unless they're logged into TWL and have active n.com subscriptions, so while it's still possible to cite them, it's far less helpful. The browser extension I wrote to cite these pages fixes these URLs automatically, and otherwise there's an AWB script (at the deschmutz link). JPxG (talk) 22:33, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Generally speaking you should never use any of the links coming from The Wikipedia Library, unless you suspect the URL itself is citable (as opposed to the work it carries). If you cite a proxied link on the English Wikipedia I believe Citation bot should come along and correct it - elsewhere you should ideally cite non-proxied links in the first place. I appreciate that's unfortunately a cumbersome process. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 12:32, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Two options:

1. After making clippings within the library, navigate to newspapers.com outside of the library, log in to your Newspapers.com account, and go to your clippings and copy the URL(s) from there.
2. As JPxG explained above - change www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org in the URL to newspapers.com.

@Samwalton9 (WMF): After some digging, I've found that older issues of w:The Journal of Urology are available via ScienceDirect, but in 2019 the journal was transferred to w:Wolters Kluwer - which the Wikipedia Library does not have access to, as far as I can see. :( Muzilon (talk) 19:30, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

When I try to search the library, I get the error message:
