Thank you for helping during the heatwave!

Manager of Customer Operations Zae Perrin from MCE · 16 Sep 22

As climate change increases extreme weather events, we turn to electricity to help us stay comfortable. The above average temperatures from our recent heatwave meant above average air conditioning needs which peak between the hours of 4 and 9 pm. As solar stops producing in the early evening, we turn to fossil fuel-based generation to help meet these increasing demands. But when temperatures spike high enough, even these additional generation sources may not be enough to keep the lights on. Thank you for your efforts to conserve power and help California keep the lights on!

Continued Energy Conservation Needed

JOIN YOUR NEIGHBORS AND CONTINUE TO CONSERVE ENERGY FROM 4-8 P.M.

California’s record-breaking heatwave continues to strain our energy grid. We’ve risen to the challenge and our collective energy conservation efforts have prevented the need for brownouts. However, today poses extra challenges with reduced power generation due to smoke and cloud cover. For our medically vulnerable neighbors, losing power has the potential to be incredibly unsafe and even life threatening in a matter of hours. The elderly can be less heat tolerant and may require refrigerated medication. Some of us also rely on electrically powered medical equipment like ventilators and electric mobility devices.

WHAT TO DO FROM 4-8 p.m.
-If health permits, turn your thermostat up to 78º or higher or opt for fans instead of a/c.
-Wait to do your laundry and dishes
-Unplug your electronic devices and wait to charge your EV if you have one
-Sign up for the Power Saver Rewards Program
to get rewarded for your energy conservation efforts (https://powersaver.pge.com/#eligible.)

Let’s continue to show the nation how Californians come together and prevent power outages to keep everyone safe.

In the event that brownouts are needed, visit PG&E’s webpage
to see if your location will be affected. (https://www.pge.com/en_US/residential/ou...)

While we’ve been able to avoid brownouts to date, unfortunately, some have experienced power outages due to heat-related equipment failure.
