Neighbors, For those who do not follow us on Instagram, Facebook or X, we wanted to share the attached media release regarding vandalism over the weekend, with you here on Nextdoor. As mentioned in the media release, if you live in the area and have surveillance cameras, we ask that you please review them to see if you captured any footage that may assist in this investigation. Thank you! https://www.instagram.com/millvalleypd/p/C480Zw5vlZp/ Mill Valley, CA – On Saturday, March 23, 2024, around 12:30 PM, Mill Valley police officers responded to a report of vandalism in the 100 block of Molino Avenue. Witnesses informed the officers that someone had used an aerosol can to spray black Swastikas on Ukrainian flags displayed on private property. As our officers investigated this report, they contacted the victims and confirmed that an unknown suspect(s) had indeed vandalized the flag sometime between the evening hours of March 22, 2024 and the morning of March 23, 2024. During the initial investigation, officers located a second victim in the area of Molino Avenue and Wildomar Street and determined that their Ukrainian flag had also been vandalized in the same manner, during the same time period. Our officers thoroughly searched the area for witnesses and homes with surveillance systems that might have recorded these crimes. Despite the ongoing review of many hours of video surveillance by Mill Valley detectives, no suspects have been identified at this stage of the investigation. The detectives are treating this incident as a hate crime and urge residents in these areas to continue checking their surveillance systems for any video footage that could aid in the investigation. Upon learning of this investigation, Mill Valley Police Chief Rick Navarro shared the following statement: "The Mill Valley Police Department and our staff stand firmly with the City of Mill Valley against all forms of hate and discrimination. As part of our mission, the Mill Valley Police Department strives to provide a safe and secure community for our residents and visitors. Crimes of hate targeting any segment of our community will not be tolerated. We encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences a hate crime to report it to our office immediately so that we can swiftly investigate the incident and work towards ensuring justice is served." Anyone who believes they have information that could help identify the person(s) responsible are asked to contact Detective Sergeant David Kollerer at [email protected] or by telephone at 415-389-4278. For those who prefer to remain anonymous, tips can be left using the Mill Valley Police anonymous tip line by calling 415-721-4547. As the investigation is ongoing, no additional information will be released at this time.
