What is MALARONE?
MALARONE is the brand name for atovaquone and proguanil hydrochloride and is available as an oral tablet and pediatric tablet.
What dosages is MALARONE available in?
MALARONE is available as one of the following:
- Tablets (adult strength): 250 mg atovaquone and 100 mg proguanil hydrochloride

What is MALARONE used for?
MALARONE is an antimalarial and is used to prevent and treat malaria caused by plasmodium falciparum species.
How does MALARONE work?
MALARONE is a combination of two medications that work together to stop malaria from growing in your body. Atovaquone works by stopping the malaria parasite from being able to make energy for itself. Without energy, the malaria parasite dies off. Proguanil is thought to work by boosting atovaquone’s effect on the malaria parasite.
How do I take MALARONE?
For malaria prevention: Typically, you’ll start MALARONE 1 to 2 days before you enter an area with malaria, and then continue taking the medication throughout your stay. After you leave from this area, you’ll need to take MALARONE for 7 more days. MALARONE should be taken with food or a milky drink.
Is it safe for me to take MALARONE?
