Shocked New Yorkers shout from apartments after rare earthquake rattles city
Dramatic video footage shows the moment a rare 4.8-magnitude earthquake sparked chaos Friday and caused shocked residents of New York City apartment buildings to shout at each other in confusion.
“The floor just started shaking!” one person can be heard yelling in footage, posted by X user @aztecaharlem.
“I thought it was an earthquake!” another resident shouts as the quake rattles the complex.
“Me too!” a third person hollers back.
The visual footage, which is less striking than the audio in the clip, then pans to surrounding buildings.
The city, along with the tri-state area, was rocked by the earthquake at 10:23 a.m.— the most powerful temblor to strike near the Big Apple in 130 years.
