Zendaya’s new red hair pays homage to ‘Spider-Man’
Talk about getting into character.
Zendaya kicked off the “Spider-Man: Far From Home” press tour on Monday by debuting a brand-new red hair look, and took to Twitter to confirm that it was a “semi-permanent” dye job, not the work of a wig.
And while the 22-year-old “Euphoria” star is no stranger to switching up her locks — she’s shown off everything from a blond updo to a bowl cut to a dramatic afro on the red carpet — she also revealed that this particular hair change was intended as a tribute to the Marvel heroine she plays.
“MJ homage,” the actress tweeted — referring to Mary Jane, the iconic character from the “Spider-Man” comics. It’s worth noting that while Zendaya’s character in the franchise is also called MJ, her full name is Michelle Jones.
The star even used a famous phrase from the comic-book redhead to caption an Instagram post spotlighting her freshly dyed locks: “Face it, Tiger.”
