Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. Vestavia Hills High School students raised $230,023 for the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Students began fundraising for UAB's Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology and Oncofertility Program more than five years ago and have raised more than $1 million. The donations were made through the school's semester-long service learning RISE program. (University of Alabama at Birmingham)
  2. HData, a Birmingham-based firm, is working with Southern Co. on an artificial intelligence-related project. The pilot program manages regulatory data on electric and gas utilities and explores the benefits of AI. HData's program would explore areas of support for departments, such as regulatory accounting, accounting, finance, and treasury. (Birmingham Business Journal)
  3. On Tuesday morning, a dog was captured by the Greater Birmingham Humane Society for attacking a man and woman in a nearby Tarrant park. Earlier that day, a man in his 70s was attacked by two dogs at Chief Billy Hewitt Park, and when a woman tried to help, she was also attacked. Both victims are still hospitalized and are eager to learn if these dogs had owners. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
