Alabama Counties With The Highest, Lowest Gas Prices

Gas prices are at a seven-year high this summer in the U.S. Here's a look at the most expensive Alabama counties.

BIRMINGHAM, AL β€” Gas prices reached a seven-year high this summer, according to a recent AAA report. As of Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of gas in the United States was $3.16. Last year, gas prices hovered around $2.18 per gallon in July.

If you take a trip to the western United States, you'll likely be paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation. Gas prices have reached as high as $4.24 in California, $3.67 in Nevada and $3.64 in Washington state.

Meanwhile, Southern states including Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Missouri enjoy the nation's lowest gas prices, ranging from $2.72 to $2.87 per gallon.

The lowest in the state include:

  • Clay County: $2.751
  • Shelby County: $2.753
  • Etowah County: $2.760
  • Cherokee County: $2.763
  • Marshall County: $2.764
