Alabama's Most Expensive Zip Codes For Renters: Report

A recent study shows most of Alabama's most expensive zip codes for renters are in the Birmingham metro.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Renting is often a better option for people than owning a home, but in some zip codes in Alabama, renting is an expensive option.

A recent study by RentCafe shows that the majority of the most expensive areas in Alabama are in the Birmingham metro area.

Thee study looks at the most expensive ZIP codes in the U.S. - almost 4,400 ZIP codes in more than 130 markets and created a national ranking, as well as regional and state rankings.

  • The Southside neighborhood in Birmingham opens the top with ZIP code 35233. A rental apartment here ($1,594) is almost $600 more expensive than the city average.
  • 5 other spots in our ranking are occupied by Birmingham ZIP codes, the cheapest of which is ZIP code 35211 with an average rent of $1,078.
  • Huntsville and Tuscaloosa also make it to the top with ZIP codes 35801 ($1,129) and 35406 ($1,083), respectively.
  • At the other end of the spectrum, Decatur’s ZIP code 35601 is the 6th most affordable area nationwide with an average rent of $504. 3 other ZIP codes in Alabama display average rents under $600.
