Allstate agency owners earn $20,000 grant for American Red Cross

Birmingham, Ala., Dec 21, 2017 – Twenty Allstate agency owners from across Alabama recently came together to secure a $20,000 Allstate Foundation Helping Hands® grant to benefit the American Red Cross. The grant will support the nonprofit organization’s mission to respond to disaster in a moment’s notice by providing relief to emergency responders as well as financial assistance to those affected by the disaster.

The agency owners each earned $1,000 for the American Red Cross by installing free smoke alarms in community member homes. On Nov. 4, as a part of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, Allstate volunteers installed the alarms in their community and helped homeowners develop a safety plan. The American Red Cross will use the $20,000 grant to further its disaster relief work in the state.

The participating Allstate volunteers are among thousands of agency owners and financial specialists around the country working to strengthen communities by volunteering their time to support the causes they care about most.

“As small business owners and community leaders, Allstate agency owners and financial specialists see firsthand the opportunities and challenges facing the communities they serve,” said Amy Chism, Allstate agency process specialist. “Giving back is core to who we are at Allstate, which is why we’re all proud to volunteer to help promote fire safety and save lives, while raising funds for residents who have been or may be affected by a disaster.”

The American Red Cross is one of thousands of organizations this year to receive Allstate Foundation Helping Hands grants secured by agency owners and financial specialists on behalf of the nonprofits where they volunteer. The grants support organizations addressing domestic violence, youth empowerment, disaster preparedness, hunger and other causes.
