Do Dah Day Comes To Highland Park Saturday

One of the city's longest-running festivals takes place this Saturday in Highland Park.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Saturday, May 19, the Highland Park neighborhood of Birmingham will be filled with dogs, families, music, food, dogs, activities, dogs, local craft beers, dogs and more dogs, as Do Dah Day kicks off for the 40th time in its long history of benefiting animal advocacy organizations.

The event was started in 1979 "when a small group of friends got together and decided to have a party and Do Dah Day was born.," according to the organization. The following years saw the party grow into an event raising money for local charities such as the Birmingham Zoo, Avondale Library and the Alabama Theatre. With so many Do Dah Day volunteers being pet owners and animal lovers, it was a natural progression for the fundraising focus to turn to local animal charities. Soon Do Dah Day was no longer a party β€” it had become an all-out festival.
