BIRMINGHAM, AL β€” A flash flood watch remains in effect for most of central Alabama, including Jefferson County, through Wednesday and into Thursday morning.

The watch was initially issued Monday and was set to expire Wednesday morning, but heavy rain over the last two days have saturated the soil in most of the area, making conditions for flooding more likely.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has defined a β€œmarginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for much of central and north Alabama Wednesday, with the latest forecast suggesting wind profiles could be favorable for a brief tornado. Also some small hail will be possible in heavier thunderstorms.
