Inmate Found Dead At Bessemer Prison

An inmate serving as life sentence for murder was found dead at Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer.

BESSEMER, AL β€” A man serving a life sentence for a Lee County murder was found dead in his cell Friday at Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer. Johnathan Ray Revells, 42, was found unresponsive in his single-man cell by correctional staff performing a routine cell check.

The Alabama Department of Corrections said Revells was taken to the prison infirmary where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed Saturday revealed no foul play or trauma, but e cause of Revells' death has not been determined by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

Revells was convicted in the Aug. 25, 2004, slaying of his neighbor, Leroy Jones in Lee County. He was sentenced to life in prison in 2007.
